So, the only internet service available in my area is through AT&T DSL. They recently incorporated a 150gb limit and they charge you for any overage. We have had the service for over a year and the bill was never higher than $61. This last month, the overages hit and our bill was $191. So now I'm looking for other options. Has anyone tried gaming on a PS5 with a jetpack? I'm planning on signing up through Verizon who our phones are with. We each have 30gb of hotspotting from our phones and the 150gb through the jetpack. Is this even feasible?!

Really is going to depend on your signal strength and the latency that brings.

Pre-pandemic when I was commuting to work every day on a train, I used a jetpack to game with my Switch. I only played games like Dark Souls and Salt & Sanctuary, and my connection wasn't the most stable considering I was on a train and constantly moving, but I was able to play online with other people and it worked relatively well.

What sort of games do you play? I imagine a jetpack is not ideal for FPS games.

Battlefield, diablo, Madden, destiny, mostly online games, but the DSL sucks at those too. We've been loving here just over a year and my gaming time has taken a huge hit due to the bad connection

Can you try using your phone as a hotspot? That should give you an idea before committing to the jetpack. If so, test a game such as Battlefield and see what your latency looks like. Both your phone and the jetpack will be running off Verizon's LTE network, so in game performance should be the same using your phone as it would with the jetpack. If the coverage in your area is poor, your connection will suffer unfortunately. However - the jetpack will likely receive a slightly stronger signal than your phone. Not faster, just more stable.

As far as data usage goes - online gaming doesn't use very much data. It's downloading games/updates that eat it up. And streaming video, esp at higher resolutions.

I also wanted to say, I have used Verizon mobile hotspot before while I was living in Fort Collins CO. I had great coverage there, and my latency typically ranged from 72ms to 89ms in the games I was playing back then. That's very acceptable for most FPS games, unless you're ultra competitive.

My hand was forced to use it because I had Comcast XFinity at the time, and for whatever reason it had awful latency where I lived (200ms+). It was a cable connection, and I think the node my connection was on was probably highly congested. So my experience with Verizon mobile hotspot was actually surprisingly nice given the circumstances.
