Finally giving RDR2 a playthrough; What can I skip?

I know this game is extremely tedious, but I want to play it for the story.
What tedious shite can I avoid while still enjoying the game?

I believe the direct story missions on the map are yellow. Every mission that is white is optional.
There are a lot of optional missions/side quests that are great though and I would argue that they and exploration are what makes the game.

I did everything. The game is beautiful. Yes, it’s a lot of “run/ride a horse to here”, but I fell in love with the visuals and atmosphere. I took my time and progressed through the story slowly. Not sure why you would want to rush through it, but just stick to the main story missions if you just want a quick play through.

Avoid talking to people in any alley in St Dennis. They rob you. One dude took about 1000 from me. Can't find him anywhere

Is crafting necessary?
Nope. You get enough tonics and ammo from bodies to not worry about it.
There's tons of side stuff in the game and it's really all optional. Hunting, fishing, gambling, crafting, camp activities, treasure maps, collectibles, etc.
The tangible rewards you get from doing them are pretty negligible. Do them if you enjoy them essentially, they are there to give the world depth and flavor. RDR2 is as much as sim as it is any other genre. So you can just rip through all the story missions if you want, or you can do all that side stuff and sorta see and experience the world they built.
The devs specifically said they didn't want any of the side activities to be that rewarding because they didn't any of it to feel mandatory.

RDR2 is very polarizing imo.
Hell, I played it close to 200 hours to basically 100% it and I'm not even sure what k think of it. Parts of it are so impressive, other aspects of it are sheer maddening.
They clearly sacrificed fun and enjoyabilty for "realism" in a lot of places. Maybe ok if your goal is to make fine art, but not if you're trying to make a traditional video game.

It is a masterpiece, but not enjoyable to play.

Like that’s just your opinion, man.
Crafting is only necessary if you want to complete challenges.

That is not the issue, not uncharted cutscene bad but the game is slow enough already, I don't need to have the controller taken out my hand every 20mins to watch a 5min cutscene.

I got about 10 hours in and just felt so overwhelmed. As somebody that has to do as much side shite that’s available before continuing on with the story it was a mind frick at all the options I had. I found myself firing it up just to be like wtf should I do....hunt, gamble, acquire all the horses, go for a bounty, upgrade the camp, etc. I would legit just be like frick it and turn it back off lol. Not saying it’s a bad thing to have so many options it was just overwhelming for me. I’ll go back to it someday

One thing you can’t skip is riding a fricking horse. Get used to it

No. I literally never crafted. I'd cook by the fire when I would camp just to have some extra health items. Do that and grab a bowl of stew when you're at the main camp.
Deadeye is basically a cheat code so make sure you've got plenty of deadeye regen & you'll dominate.

The only thing I did was upgrade the camp when I had the money for it. None of that stuff interested me so I didn't even bother & you don't have to. If you upgrade the camp enough you get fast travel at your bunk.
Also, look online where to find the Arabian horse in the wild. It's a long trip to the mountains but that's the only horse I used all game so it's worth it.

Rockstar should get credit for making video game horses more painful to ride than real-life horses.

I know a chick that is obsessed with it. She’s been playing since it came out and just 100%’d it which I think only about 1% of gamers have done. Some of the challenges are damn near impossible

Finally started it this week. Made it to chapter 4 earlier.
Game is great, don't know why it gets hate. Yeah the beginning is slow and you just want to jump into things but it picks up.
Upgrade to get fast travel. The horses can be a pain. My biggest issue is other riders barely getting in your way sending you and your horse tumbling.
