X was linear but it had story to make up for it.

It was linear but it was dense.
There were certainly more avenues to explore and the areas, like you just pointed out, were worth combing over again for secrets and shite

They took XV (versus) out of the Fabula Nova universe when they named it XV in 2013, and made it it's own game, own story, own setting, no more part of the FNC universe.
I don't think this is completely true quite yet. Type 0 retained elements of FNC despite the name change (honestly which are super minor like the classic FF elements like gil, moogles, airships, etc). We'll have to wait and see when the full game releases.

By the way it's always been on my bucket list to go back and play all the FF games. I started FF1 on vita a couple of months back but didn't finish it.
i also broke down and bought P4G last night.

I'm talking about XV...is that the one that will still have all of the l'cie/falcie weird shite?
Honestly, no one truly knows. It may have some of those elements, but how integrated they are into the story is something we will not know until the demo or full game releases. I would urge you to wait and see before making judgments when the game is 9-18 months from release.

maybe there isn't a big future for poorly made console games. It's as if the thought that XIII was a piece of shite never occurred to them. NOOOOO, you see it's that there's no future in console games
after reading this, I'm pretty confident that the series is dead
Context is important to understand his point. The market in Japan has shifted to handhelds and mobile devices. This is a very well measured and documented fact that publishers and developers have followed accordingly.
If these developers are no longer able to succeed in Japan, they'll focus even less resources on big console games because that's not what their primary audience wants. That said, all signs point to this being a big success. I don't think we'll have to worry about it too much.

I will probably give this one a play through. I've been hard on the latest entries of Final Fantasy, but this game seems like it's going to be fun.
I do wonder when Final Fantasy is going to find its "niche" in today's gaming world. If you look back FF 1-9 are pretty much the same style of game. Obviously slight gameplay changes (V's job system, VII's materia, VIII's GF/draw system), but at their core, they were all the same. Since X, Square-Enix tries to re-do the "core" of every game. I just wonder when they are going to find what works best, or if they are going to constantly change like they have been.

It's interesting question. I do feel like they did more to change throughout though. FF4 is a complete change in direction and design from the very simple and non-story/character intensive FF1-3. FF7 changed how stories were told in the series, and introduced things that haven't been done in regards to pacing and content.
I can see what you're saying, I just don't consider the changes FFX onwards made all that different from previous changes after considering technological advancements.
Regardless, I'm very exciting to see how it turns out.
