I remember doing this one time, when I had gotten frustrated with squads (first three the team split off, no one talked or marked the map, making me wonder what the point was). So I camped in an out of the way spot, barely making my way through the map.

It was boring AF. Literally did it once, then realized I was also massively undergeared compared to the other two people left. Suffice it to say, I made top 3 but wasn't a threat to those guys. Never did it again.

Now, sometimes I'll land in less occupied areas (landing with 80 other people in the towers isn't terribly fun to me either). I'll immediately go hunting afterwards. I admit I'm not great, but I still have fun doing it that way.

My squad hated me at first because if I heard shots or a vehicle, my arse was out the house chasing sounds. They then realized this is the most efficient way of looting.

Plus it's fun as hell ruining someone else's game.
