I doubt anyone has bought something like that for USD in EVE
I don't doubt it. People spend thousands on a shitty city builder game like Evony.
Some people have allegedly paid upwards of 10k for Atlantis, the largest city you can conquer in Evony. Not sure why they would want it. Sure the city is kickass but from the second a real player has conquered the city, you are under nonstop attack until you lose the city.
In Evony, your game continues even when offline, so you have to have teams protecting your city...
blah blah blah, point is people spend their money on odd things. So yes, I can see someone paying an insane sum for even virtual crap.
Some nerd might think it equally insane for someone to spend 750k on a car when their car gets them to nerdsville fine and it only cost them 13k.

my point was that the only people who would aqcuire such a ship would not be in a position to sell it. Not to mention even if someone bought it; they would still have to invest all the money and RIDICULOUS amount of time to train the pilot skill
these ships are also kinda worthless without the whole support network of the alliance they belong to. If some random person bought one by themselves; it would be gone before that week was over

I didn't say a random person would buy it. Of course it would have to be someone with a strong alliance or it would be pointless to buy. Or I should say even more pointless since paying that much for pixels is silly.
However as I said. People drop crazy money on evony. I played that game for a year and you get presents from friends when they spend money so you can get an idea of who in your alliance is spending money and there were people dropping $200 to $300 every month.
The stress of having those uber cities or in this case uber ship aren't worth it.
I was a nervous wreck the year I played Evony.
