I’m actually finding it a little too easy so far. The combat is so tight though - they definitely sprinkled in some Sekiro.

I’m not having tons of problems like I anticipated. I’m still dying a decent amount lol. I’m so glad they did sprinkle in the mechanics of sekiro. The more I play the more I’m liking this game.

Same here. At first I was bummed that there wasn’t any kind of central area like Firelink… then I got invited.

I got Elden Ring, but I also thought Bloodborne was one of the best PS4 games of all time, so my decision was probably biased.

I did a replay of BB in anticipation of ER and it definitely made me develop some bad habits. Definitely punishing if you're too aggressive.

Honestly, they don't sound that different, and I will play both. I'm just looking for advice and what the differences are.

They are drastically different games.

Now that I understand that you wanted everyone to not only explain to you what each game offered, but intuit the types of games you enjoyed, I’m perfectly clear that this thread is useless.

Man, I apologize for being old and not realizing that Elden Ring was so superior that you took it personal. But to say that the thread was useless is a vast reach. You may have found it useless and, again, I apologize for putting my gun to your head to make you respond. However, at least one other person had the same question, so you are being a bit snobbish right now. Maybe just stay out of threads that are beneath you.

If you don't like super difficult games or get easily frustrated, I would pass on Elden Ring for now. Not even really sure why I got it myself - probably because I knew George RR Martin was involved and it gives off serious LoTR vibes. I just love the world they've created here so much more than what I saw from my admitted little time with Dark Souls.

Sure, the game looks great. Some of the responses have made me realize, that like you, I probably would regret Elden Ring. Thanks for your input.

dudes being a dick, dont worry about him.

Have you played any other games from elden ring developers? Dark souls, blood borne, etc? they have very little in the way of instruction. they are by design, somewhat obtuse and throw you to the wolves. that boss fights (and even non-boss) are challenging and often take repeated deaths to master. Story is almost non-existent in most of their games and mostly has to be pieced together by the player by finding nuggets of info scattered around.

Horizon is much more story driven and has a set tale to tell you. I find the combat enjoyable and if you put it on harder difficulty you probably aren't going to cake walk through it. its your typical open world game where there a ton of markers and stuff to explore. not quite as bad as farcry and AC though. If you played the first one, its alot more of the same but refined.

im play horizon and loving it. Elden ring looks great but i haven't liked any of their games yet. bloodborne was meh for me despite having very high praise in general. just not what im looking for in my gametime.

hope that helps.

This helped a ton. I understand exactly how you described the differences. I know I would like Horizon, but I couldn't find this sort of explanation of the differences of the two (I knew they were different, confirmed by most of the responses). Thank you.

Dude’s tired of people treating forums like Google. He gave us zero information about the types of games he likes, and did what appears to be zero research into the games in question. Most of this thread is just people talking amongst themselves about ER. Nearly everyone trying to directly address OP has either had to shoot into the dark, or overtly asked for more information. Both of which were because the OP was super low effort.

Was I more of a dick in my second post than I should have been? Yeah, probably. But I still think OP is being a jackass for making people play 20 questions with him.

Bro, caro was able to effectively tell me the differences without being snobbish. Maybe I wasn't sure the best way to ask the question or to tell you what I like/dislike. Its ok. This isn't the first time we've witnessed your "I'm smarter than all of you" act just to gain some cred in a thread. The thing is, if something is beneath you, move the frick on.

ETA: This thread has served its purpose. Thanks to all who genuinely tried to help.

The point is that you posted two sentences, which meant he had to post multiple paragraphs. Had you posted multiple paragraphs, he would have only needed to post a couple of sentences. It was the entitlement I was objecting to.

But at this point, I’ve certainly spent enough time belaboring the issue. Enjoy your game.

If you don't have anything good to say....

What's wrong with being helpful? Like he said, don't respond if you feel it's a useless thread.

Also, the board and it's contained threads are not here to serve you, nor does it have to cater to your preferences. He asked a simple question. Yes, Google or YouTube likely could have answered his question. However, a forum is comprised of people he can get opinions and feedback from, some who's opinions he may happen to value for all we know - it's a bit different than reading a game review from some random person.

He didn’t ask a simple question. If he did, this thread wouldn’t be filled with people asking him questions in return, or giving prefaced answers. And if you go back to my very first reply, I gave a simple answer to his over broad question. He said that my simple answer wasn’t clear enough for him. It wasn’t until afterwards that I realized just how much of a fishing expedition was being expected.

And just for clarification, when I’m talking detail, all I mean is for an OP to look something like “I’ve never played DS or HZD, but here are some games that I’ve enjoyed: X, Y, Z. Which out of ER or HFW do you think I would enjoy more based on that?”

Instead, the thread is filled with people trying to pull that information out of him one question at a time, or prefacing their answers with if/then statements.

And yes, while this board certainly doesn’t need to cater to my preferences, message boards are primarily self policing. I thought OP was being shitty, so I called it out. People think I’m wrong? Call me out. But the idea of “if you don’t like what OP says, leave the thread” certainly doesn’t seem to apply anywhere else on the internet.

Holy shite, you are pretentious aren't you.

Here are the first responses:

quote:

Best scene in muppet movie

LINK

quote:

Elden ring is game of the year

quote:

Did you like Horizon Zero Dawn? If so, I would play Forbidden West first.

quote:

It's February

OP, it depends on what kind of game you like

quote:

If your playing on PC I would wait for Elden Ring.

Where is the question here, other than Did I like HZD, but then he answered anyway.

quote:

He said that my simple answer wasn’t clear enough for him

I did not. I stated my intention.

quote:

It wasn’t until afterwards that I realized just how much of a fishing expedition was being expected.

Again, if you are too busy or don't want to help my "fishing expedition", then don't. Help me or don't. I won't lose sleep over it. If you have a problem with my thread, request admin and let them handle it. For fricks sake, you don't own this message board nor, to my knowledge, are an admin on this board.
