I've had a chance to play all three characters now

Dante is the most fun, no big surprise there. The ability to switch stances really gives you so much flexibility in the fights. He's gonna be most people's all around fav. I'm guessing. Tons of potential power and all the moves/stances compliment each other nicely.

Nero is also good, his different arms give him his variety and they provide a ton of cool stuff to do, he'd be on par with Dante, but they did something weird that I don't like. You can't switch between arms in your inventory without breaking them. Arms are basically disposable tools. Essentially you can carry around so many arms at once (starts at 3, but you can expand) and various things can cause your arms to break. You can break them accidentally, by getting hit while using, or you can purposefully overload them to do their super attack (or just blow up the arm immediately to knock enemies back for defense). The problem is that say you have 3 different arms in your arsenal and have arm A currently equipped. You can't get to arm B without destroying arm A. And if you want Arm C you gotta destroy both and A and B to get to it. Arms being a disposable resource and breaking doesn't bother me, in fact I kinda like it as a mechanic. They are cheap to restock between missions and provide some strategy in which ones you want to carry around, but they really should have let you quick swap between your currently available arms like you can with Dante's styles.

V is EZ mode. I barely get hit when using him. You can just stay back from enemies and mindlessly spam your pet attacks and it seems to win the battle and also build up big combos. The bird is like your "gun" and the cat is like you "sword", mastering the combat is cool but his style is thus far the least demanding as you can just run away from enemies and spam attacks and seem to win battles (at least in normal mode).

One neat feature they included is what they call the "void" mode, it's essentially a battle playground. You can pick your character, which mob you want to face, whether or not it actually attacks, whether or not you want infinite DT gauge, all shite like that. It's basically a sandbox you can practice your combos and learn your moves.

Yeah I’ll probably wait on this game. Based on what I’m hearing it sounds I’m gonna wait for a price drop.

From what it sounds like, you’ll probably get a better DMC experience playing Bayonetta 2 than you would DMC5.

The motorcycle weapon is def. one of the all time best in the series though. It's just so fun to use and feels OP as hell also.

What is the DMC experience though? The first game (the only one made by the Bayonetta devs) feels very different from the Bayonetta series.

Well he was talking about all the angels and demons and stuff and how it feels real modern and stuff and less...idk if the word is gothic, but somewhere around there.

I’ll check it out at a later date but I can get that kind of hack and slash most anywhere.

All the characters except for Dante are so annoying.

The final trailer spoiled the ending.

If it's any consolation, his spoiler is somewhat inaccurate anyway.

I've completed normal and am into Son of Sparda, game plays much better on that difficulty as expected.

Combat is also way more rich now that basically everything is unlocked.

Like past DMC games, completing the missions is just the first step, and the long term replayability is trying to get higher rankings and beat higher difficulties and stuff.

DMC1 and 3 nail the tone I prefer for my DMC games, particularly DMC1. DMC3 recaptures the tone of DMC1 pretty well and introduces a bit more modern elements without them effecting the overall look and feel. They were legitimately creepy and foreboding and felt sinister.

DMC5 has awesome combat but still not a fan of the vibe they went for. Not enough for me to dislike the game though.

I would have liked to see more variety in the levels. Half the levels are in urban locations and the other half are in that tree thing and the tree ones all look very similar.

For those of you who don't know who Nico's father is, he's the a-hole scientist with a stutter from DMC4 that Dante shoots in the head. (Agnus)

Apparently there was a lot of hit it and quit it going on in Fortuna.

nobody gives a frick man, you can frick right off out of this thread after dropping day 1 spoilers. i dont care how predictable or unpredictable it is, a spoiler is a spoiler.

go back and defend the sanctity of the MK storyline or something equally as pointless.

For me, this game has a Sonic the Hedgehog problem where the developers keep trying to shove all these extra characters in the game (presumably as a way to keep the gameplay feeling fresh), but all I really want to do is play the Dante stuff.

There are some abilities that are the exact same thing (ie double jump) that must be purchased individually for each character.

The only real "extra" character in the game is Nico.

Morrison is from the anime. (as is Patty, the girl on the phone)

Trish and Lady have been around forever.

Kyrie was a major part of DMC4. (redhead)

Nero is technically the main character.

As for V's pets, if they had made Shadow a giant tarantula instead if a panther it would have made it too obvious.

DMC is Dante. I really didn't like splitting my time between Dante/Nero in 4, and I especially don't enjoy splitting my time between 3 characters in 5. It's done worse in that you're constantly switching back and forth between characters. Just when you get the hang of one character, you play as another one then back and forth.

At least Nero is relatively similar to Dante. V's missions are terrible.

Its strongly hinted that Dante has been grooming Nero to take over the business since DMC4 (Devil May Cry is the name of the business afterall).

Nero at least knows how to pay the phone bill.

The first time I did one I thought it was kinda interesting and figured I'd get better at them.

Now that I've played the whole game though and had a chance to use fully powered up Dante/Nero, V's missions are pretty bad, I sorta dread doing them now. The combat is so bland and uninteresting and you don't really feel like you're actually doing anything other than randomly mashing buttons.

If they wanted more variety in the game they should have made more environment types for the missions. I can deal with the urban areas fine, but half the levels being inside the tree kinda stinks and makes them all blur together.

im having a good time but Pepe is right, the environments suck dick. im sick of the ruined city and the stupid tree. missions 14, 15, and 16 all being "diverging points" is a lame bullshite move too.

combat system is so deep and fun. incredible how intricately everything is designed. really getting the hang of Nero's breakers and can consistently stay above S with just switching and cleverness. Dante's motorcycle is a blast.

im on M16 now, going to run to the gym and then I may plug through the rest of the game tonight. bosses have been a big letdown, way too easy.

ETA: DMC3 is still the GOAT. i dont know how they made that tower feel so varied and different, but they nailed it. bosses were way better too
