What about using miracles?

Faith is mostly a defensive build, as it's best for stuff like Heal and Magic Barrier. You can use lightning spears but they were nerfed into oblivion and barely worth using since.

So stick with strength then? I got the claymore maxed out.

If it's not infused, yes.

Does it make sense to add faith to my strength build in DS2 with a claymore?
What is your strength at right now? The real benefit of adding faith to your build is to 1) have access to the amazing Sunlight Spear & Great Lightning Spear, and 2) to infuse a big sword with lightning with perhaps the most popular being the Zweihander.
A +10 Lightning Zweihander is going do deal 252 physical dmg + 252 lightning dmg. That's base damage. You're also going to get a little scaling from STR, DEX, and glorious B scaling from FAI.
With 24 STR, 12 DEX, and 42 FAI (you want at least 42 faith for GLS, but I recommend getting up to 55 for Sunlight Spear) you're going to be dealing just insane amounts of damage.

I got past the black gultch so I know I'm deep into it. I just want to make my a more interesting build. I feel like I'm playing this and bloodborne the same. Maybe my next souls game will be using magic.

Yup! Stick with str! Especially if it's just working for you.
If you ever decide to replay the game, try out some other builds. For me it's half the fun of Souls games.

If you want to use offensive spells, then go magic. Faith is more useful for pvp in ds2, and centering it around using lightning spears just isn't worth the investment.

One drawback to playing these games so late is that I will probably not replay them and dive into the depth. I'll most likely be moving on to the next game. I think I'm playing the Bloodborne DLC after this.

I don't think you can go wrong there. I think most everyone will agree that DS2 is the weakest of all the releases.
At least you'll be fresh for DS3!

I won't get 3 anytime soon. I still haven't touched Demon's or DS1

Wow, you're really sticking to the canon order aren't you
I wish I could go back and experience DeS, and DS1 like it was the first time.

If you're into that sort of thing. Which I am.

Finished my platinum on DS2 this morning, used a strength/faith build and it was actually a lot of fun...
Rotated between a shield/the greatsword and a two handed large club (that R2 attack is boss)... Used a lightning great club and sunlight blade for bosses

Did you have to use all the classes or were you able just to collect all the magic from vendors without learning them for your character?

If you want to co-op, I'm picking Bloodborne back up after I finish DS2.
i'm just gonna wait. I know if I start Bloodborne it will be months until I start DS3.
