Is the DLC integrated well or is it something I can buy after if I enjoy? I don't have hundreds of hours. If I buy from the start will I be able to discern what is DLC and what isn't?
How similar is this to GTA5? I'm finishing it before it leaves game pass. Should I wait a few weeks to dive in?

CDPR heavily suggested that those of us who had already completed the game start a new playthrough when acquiring the DLC. Now, a lot of that had to do with the systems revamp that was included as a free update, but it seems like the general consensus is that it's better to just have it from jump, as it integrates into the story.

Phantom Liberty is better than the base game, so I would absolutely recommend playing both.
That said, the need to start a new game (so far as I know) is almost entirely related to the mechanics changes tied to the 2.0 update. You will not need to start a new game if you purchase Phantom Liberty later on.

If I buy from the start, will I know when I'm playing the DLC? Just so I can know what I'm paying extra for.
Thanks for the answers guys

It has a start point like all of the major side story arcs. You’ll know it when it opens up to it.

Ok cool. What's an extra $20 in the grand scheme of life? Just got ultimate for 53 bucks on the xbox sale
Gonna take a few days to take a break or play something light and then jump in.

It's a really, really solid game now, and the world is a ton of fun. Enjoy

Yeah. Even the side missions from dlc have an icon in your quest log
