A novice isn't going to fry a card OCing it with the power and heat limits the cards have these days
Try and find a guy selling a bunch of mined on cards. Those are the best to buy

Yeah, don't they underclock those? Better benefit to cost ratio?

i got a guy local looking to sell a Gigabyte GTX 1060 OC 6GB GPU for $140 and im gonna try to get it for less if i can
UPDATE - we agreed to settle on $120 and he said its only 6 months old but his son just needed something better for his games so i think i did well with it and it seems like an honest hardly used GPU

8-16gb. Any more and you're just flexing the epeen
I'm building one with 32GB though because I want to be able to have 2 VMs running at the same time as well.

16gb is plenty for 2 VMs especially if you allocate the resources correctly

You're highly overestimating SSDs performance in-game. Most people still only buy 128-256gb SSDs and then have a separate large storage HDD for games.
what about the newer SSDs, are they better or worthy of upgrading from older SSDs?
i have a samsung 840 EVO and a samsung 840 PRO, both of which are like 10 years old now.
has SSD drives advanced over time or are they still pretty much the same as the ones sold today?

Outside of nvme drives, they're pretty much the same. Even nvme is negligible

ok so then no worries about lifespan or reason to change them other then storage sizes?
i might try to pick up some used deals to upgrade mine to 1TB and then put my 512GB in my dads computer then.
are there any brands to avoid there?
and whats the difference in sata vs PCIe slot SSDs?

SSDs are so cheap now I would just buy new ones and not used. Probably the only time you'll ever see me say that
I don't care for the added expense for a nvme drive bc the boot and load speeds are so small it'll be hard to notice. PCIe just has better bandwidth so increased speeds

I've got one (a 970 Evo) just because it meant one less cable.
