I never played Castlevania much but I’m excited for the new one made by the people that made Dead Cells.

I could live without the first one. The arcade style never appealed to me. I loved Simon's Quest on the NES. Castlevania III is arguably one of the best ever, as it had multiple character choices, branching paths to reach Drac's castle, etc.

Castlevania IV on the SNES was arguably a prettier remake of the first game.

Symphony of the Night on the PS1 is a monument to video games and my favorite of all time. SOTN + Super Metroid gave rise to the Metroidvania genre that we enjoy today.

I'm really looking forward to Belmont's Curse, but cards on the table - I'd have been just as stoked to get a port of SOTN on the Switch 2.

Most people hate this one. My hot take is that Lord of Shadows is great and they should do another game in that style.

My first exposure to the series was Simon's Quest back when it was relatively new. I really enjoyed the music and atmosphere and I was too young to know how shitty the progression and difficulty curve were. Going back to it as an adult, there is no way in hell anybody beat that thing back before the days of online walkthroughs/youtube tutorials.

The Angry Video Game Nerd was right to shite all over it.

I haven't played/completed every game in the series, but Castlevania is an incredible series overall. Not every title is a banger but it's helped to create an entire genre of exploration based side scroller games. SOTN still holds up to this day.

The first problem with Simon's Quest was the piss-poor localization to English. There's zero ability to decipher their incomprehensible Engrish translation enough to know to hold the red crystal while kneeling at the cliffs so the whirlwind would come to take you through the sheer mountain surface, etc.

It's like they got a bonus for saving money on the translation to English.

The SQ cover story issue of Nintendo Power was a godsend.
