I have killed him only using shoulder shots and I do not remember getting a challenge for it

See my edit. I just saw a huge creature that was bound and determined to kill me. I was running for my life and just shooting when I could. Had no time to actually look at it.

Well there is a glowy spot that you can crit on his shoulder, that may be considered chestplate too. I will have to check it out

And maybe not accurate. I farmed Madamn Butterfly and Mad Dog 5 or 6 time a piece last night to try to get the babymaker gun? and all they dropped were green level items. Based on that spreadsheet, they were supposed to drop legendary items. I was in TVHM and a level 50 doing this...nothing. Maybe I didn't do it enough times. Not sure.

That's the life of farming a legendary item on any game. You can get lucky and get it the first try or it could take you a hundred attempts, or even longer.

It's kind of random. I played an MMO with a friend who had been playing it at least a year before I started. This one boss fight, Ifrit, had a chance to drop 1 of 8 different items. The entire time he had been playing, he only had 1 of them. I get one on my 4th successful attempt, Just the way it works.
Although, they had always talked about the drop rates in that game being way too infrequent and unfair. You don't want it to be too easy, but this isn't a job.
