BF V - noob question

Was finally able to make some upgrades to my PC, so naturally my first move was to get BF V and dive in about 3 weeks ago
I suck pretty bad right now.. I'm attributing that somewhat to me trying to play with stock weapons, but is that wrong? I've read the BF reddit and seen all the complaining about the 5.2 update, but it's hard not to think that most of the posters there are 14 year olds who are mad that they can no longer shoot heavy machine guns at ridiculous accuracy from 200 yards away
Is there a point in this beginner curve where you can win 1v1 against veteran players with tons of guns & upgrades, or am I shite out of luck without buying some upgrade pack or something?
i'll hang up and listen

Check out the free upgrade pack. I believe it's called The Practice Expansion.

I think I found your problem.

The problem is they made guns more accurate long range by reducing recoil. It just takes a lot more shots to kill someone. Also the new update broke spotting, so people can see you through walls and smoke, as well as what direction you're facing on the map.
Nothing wrong with stock weapons. The StG 44 is one of the best in the game right now. You can't really buy weapons AFAIK. If you want DLC weapons you get them with the company coin you get when you level up.

The only gun upgrades are specializations you earn by ranking up the gun like any other shooter. You get 4, one at each level.
I run medic pretty much exclusively. I have the gold Sten and EMP, close on the ZK383 and MP40. Maybe try some of the higher accuracy guns out and then upgrade them for even more accuracy/reduced recoil and just practicing landing your shots.
