Was looking for a new game to play after my 6th playthrough of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and found this on Steam.

Has really good reviews. I played the demo off steam for a few minutes and just went ahead and bough it. $15 and some change for it and the DLC. (It's a bit more $ on console)

Came out in 2024.

Banishers: Ghost of New Eden Trailer

Set in 1695 colonial North America, you play as a couple who are basically ghost hunters/banishers and you are hired to assist a town/settlement rid itself of a curse/hauntings. There is a twist that becomes obvious very early in the game, but I won't type it out (even thought it's technically in the trailer above).

Looking forward to playing this over the next few weeks.

Estimated play time with main story and side quests is about 45 hours (60-70 hours if you are the type of person to search every nook and cranny).

Has anyone else played this yet?

It's fun. A unique concept.

It's a bit like a spiritual sequal to Vampyr if you played that game.

Somewhat similar to Vampyr, the most frustrating part of the game for me was just navigating the world map.

It's a solid game with a strong script and quality performances - clearly a labor of love from the devs. It's very well-written.

Has a few glaring issues though

1. By the time your 1/3 of the way through, you've seen everything the game has to offer from a mechanical perspective. Combat, skill tree, investigations, enemy types - it all gets stagnant. For the last act, I threw the difficulty on the lowest level just because I was so bored of the combat and wanted to get through it as quickly as possible. There is a startling lack of enemy variety and skills are pretty unimaginative and leave a lot to be desired.

2. World traversal is torturously contextual. Press X to jump across the gap, press X to squeeze through a crack, press X to do whatever random traversal interaction, repeat ad nauseum. It gets incredibly obnoxious, especially if you're the kind to backtrack later and do 100% of map activities. Games with heavy contextual elements are the bane of my existence at this point

3. It's far too long. Would've benefited heavily from being a dense 15hr experience

By the time I finished getting the Plat, I almost hated it

Interesting. Sounds like it'll be a one time semi enjoyable playthrough.

I'll take that for $15.
