For any old school computer geeks, RetroGames has announced the Atari 400 Mini, which will play any games from the Atari 8 bit line (400, 800, XL, XEGS, etc) plus the Atari 5200.

Comes with 25 games built in plus the ability to add your own games with a USB stick.

Built in games include Missile Command, MULE, (Bruce) Lee, Berzerk, Miner 2049er, and Star Raiders II.

Practically anything will emulate the old Atari.

Just search for an emulator for what you want to run it on. You can get an old mini PC off of ebay for $125 and emulate all the way up to PS2.

Look at these:

Retrobat, Batocera etc. make it simple, plus it's fun setting all of it up.

ETA: I do like that old Atari controller though, I broke many of them back in the day, I might get a few of those.

I like the idea of being able to buy one that works out of the box and is set up for 4 player play.

Your average Raspberry Pi doesn’t have a setup for 4 joystick MULE out of the box.

Fair enough.

The mini-PCs work great though, and configuration is not that hard. You can even download preconfigured images to make it even simpler. Plus, for the same price you get 1000s of games from any system, not just Atari.

not just Atari

That’s what’s strange about this offering. Some of these games might have been written for the 8-bit Ataris but were ported to C-64 etc. I had an 800xl and knew people who had the 800 but no one who had the 400 with its funky keyboard.

Like retro gaming, but these are a lil dated. Do like the idea of being able to load games.

It ends up being about collecting too, I have several TBs of games from just about every system, I could never play them all. It is a blast when you have people over and everyone talks shite while playing old games. They just have a special quality that transcends the lacking graphics.
