Played this for about 10 hours now. Overall, for what it is, I think I do like it.
I like the city of Baghdad, but it does lack a certain character. The different districts really aren't all that distinct from one another, and there is a lot of wasted space outside of the city.
The lack of side content is very disappointing. From what I can see, it pretty much all boils down to Assassin Contracts, the occasional Baghdad story, and some collectables.
The story is lacking in any and all memorable characters or events.
As a game that started life as a Valhalla DLC that promises to play more like classic AC, I like it for being exactly what they said it'd be.
That said, the lack of budget is quite evident in a lot of areas.
In between major AC releases, I would like to see more games like this, but just executed a bit better.
One would assume making a smaller-scope, classic style AC in and of itself would cost less than the full fledged continent spanning adventures the series has turned into, so give the developers the budget needed to make the best game they can within its scope.

What awkward timing for this game

I know. That was where the series peaked for me. I also miss that style of combat too.
