They deny it (of course), but apparently they are scanning your files.

They are also accessing and copying a file in the steam directory

I've seen a few get poked at for avidly avoiding the Epic Games Launcher, but it's not like people are doing it for no reason. It's made even more shady with how much effort they're going through to release games exclusively through their client.

And China has a massive investment in Epic. They own something like 40% of it.

Tencent to be specific, which has already gotten busted leaking info to the Chinese government. There are a million reasons to stay away from Epic Games.
