I have an MSI laptop that's about 4 years old. Still runs games that I want to play on Steam great. It's about time for an upgrade though. The wife wants us to get a new desk and get a gaming desktop.

Personally, I would prefer a monitor from a company that mostly just makes monitors.

I agree. Asus is probably the only outlier to this

The overwhelming majority of display panels for monitors are made by a grand total of three companies: Samsung, LG, and AU. Anyone else is manufacturing window dressing. And probably due to market pressures, companies that haven't historically been known for monitors have been coming out recently with some of the most interesting window dressing. If you had told me a couple of years ago that I would spend a lot of money on a gaming monitor "made by" Cooler Master, I likely would have laughed at you. But, here we are.

All of that is true, but companies often process the images differently before they get to the screen.

Absolutely true, but at least from what I've seen, there isn't a single company that puts out nothing but good value (pretty much everything is good if you make the price point low enough) monitors. Pretty much everyone has winners and losers in their lineup. Well, some only have losers, but that's a separate issue entirely.

Which means that anyone buying on name instead of looking at crazy detailed monitor geek level reviews is rolling the dice. It also means you might be surrendering a certain price/performance level. To go back to my CM, I wasn't looking for a CM monitor. I was looking for a 3440x1440 120+hz adaptive sync monitor for playing big sexy single player games. There were a few great "budget" options (Xiaomi, etc) in the $350 range (which are now selling for over $500 because it's the fricking tech end times...) and a few great "super high end" models over over $1k. But little to nothing in the "really nice but not absurd" range of $500-$800, which is what I was looking for.

And as far as I know, there still isn't anything from a "known name" in monitor manufacturing that can go toe to toe with this at the just over $600 I got it for on sale: LINK

ETA: In reading my post again, I appreciate that it sounds like I'm shilling for CM or defending my purchase. I'm not. What I'm trying to convey is that in certain market segments for certain usage cases, there simply aren't a ton of options. So if you doggedly stick to a small subset of manufacturers, your field gets even smaller, and in some instances, becomes nearly non-existent. As long as people do their research, there's great performance, and value, to be had by less established manufacturers.

My MB is MSI and I'll use someone different next time. They force some bloatware on you that's next to impossible to get rid of. Nahimic.

No motherboard drivers force any bloatware on you

Yeah, that no one wants or asked to be installed.

The hardware has been fine. I'll just use someone else next time if there's a similar offer.

I hate my MSI monitor. The VA panel it uses is straight trash tier.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Nihimic comes with Dragon Center, not with the bios.

Is shite for LED controlling. Never did work correctly. The other parts aren't that bad.
