There's also no way I'd spend 30 bucks on one either, unless it was made of titanium or something.

Oh dice. It's like a bad crack habit. I have a set of Game Science in orange and blue. It came with the normal dice and then some oddballs that are really interesting. There's a d24, one with days of the week, and a few others I can't remember. They are some really nice dice though.

It's also the easiest way to support your LGS. I pop into little wars for a book and some dice now and again.

Miss the old location back in the day still.

what happens if i break away from the party and do my own thing and refuse to follow the group. I'm talking about like going into a completely different part of the map.

would the DM be forced to narrate two separate stories?

When my new GM was starting out we ran into that problem a few sessions in. Another player convinced the paladin to go off on an errand while the barb, rogue and bard wanted to accept the offer from the shady dwarf.

This is universally frowned upon. But the new GM allowed it and the bard and I being vets and the rogue being chill, allowed the "this is why it's a bad idea to split the party" to happen.

So we and the main story got sidelined for a night.

There's legitimate times to split the party, say to observe two points at once or set up an ambush, leaving the brute outside to send in someone suave or vice versa to collect info. But it should never sideline members for more than a couple minutes.

When I GM and a choice of locations come up. It's always same general area. So a market, pub, church, library. Group can hit them altogether or send a guy here someone there and meet yonder. Then I'll let them piece the info from that.

Or occasionally start a brawl...

Edit: fat thumbed

But wandering by yourself in a cavern is asking for the Velma rule to take effect.

You are quickly going to be rendered sightless in some fashion, stalked, and attacked by a standby from the bestiary.

And that's how I get players to realize I don't care which way you want to explore as long as it's together.

Just don't use the copout ending that a lot of Dungeon Masters use.

Rocks fall, everybody dies.

Also, when rolling for a character, I've given two options for each stat:

Option 1 - 5 rolls of 3d6 per stat, throw out the high and low numbers.

Option 2 - 2 rolls of 1d20 with rolls of 1, 2, 19, or 20 not counting. Either choose the higher result or average the two.

he only thing that I didn't really like was when we were crawling around the dungeon the Paladin is kind of limited. He is a badass in combat, but his DEX isn't high and he can't really sneak around like the Rogue can. He just kind of follows the group

If your strength is high, you'll have plenty of opportunity for Athletics checks. Also, you can RP. I'm not sure of the personality of your paladin, but their whole schtick is to be the annoying religious dude. You can take that in a variety of directions from fervent, devout zealot who feverishly prays and has all sorts of weird hangups that are amusing/annoying to the party to the Dudly Do Right who serves as the moral conscience for the party to the philosophical theologist who enjoys engaging in heated debate about the nature of the pantheon with his comrades.

As for making yourself useful to the party: being useful is overrated. Try to do shite and do it badly. That's equally amusing and creates great stories. "What? You think that door is trapped? Don't worry, my god shall protect me!" Opens door. Door isn't trapped. "See! Pelor protects!"

As others have said, don't get to hung up on "winning" the game (this is where 4e went wrong, as I treated it as a more like a war simulation game where each combat needed to be won because that's what the design ecnouraged) as to work with your group to create a good/interesting/amusing/entertaining story together.

Do it.

Never thought in my whole life I would come close to ever playing this shite

It's different but pretty fun so far.

Never, ever, ever piss off a DM. Unless you want to get one shot by the Tarrasque.

I threaten with that sometimes.

My real threat is " Fine, everyone we're rolling FATAL!"

1) never look up FATAL

2) never read FATAL

3) never play FATAL

Basically it's the episode of Southpark where butters is blamed for writing Scrotie McBoogerballs.

Except none of the charm or implied look into our cultural soul.

Just charts on rolling anal circumference. Which seems like it should be kind of a chuckle. No, no it isn't.

That's the sanctioned play. It'll follow a more rigid RAW and provides a canon storyline for multiple groups to participate in.

Groups can be scored and ranked based on their scenario completion.

what happens when you finish a campaign?

You just jump to the next one?

Is there any kind of endgame here?

Endgame is you die or your character retires (you quit).
