Nelly I'd like to file a formal complaint regarding going for it on 4th down.
Playing against opponents who go for it on every 4th down is not my idea of fun. The two that really irritated me were the 4th and two from his own 30 on his 1ST POSSESSION, and going on a 4th and goal LEADING BY 7 late in the 4th quarter. Although he did punt leading by 14 with 17 seconds left... I was in a dime coverage.
This type of behavior was not addressed in the league by-laws as it has been in other dynasties, but most seem to have applied the same cheesing rules across the board. That said I think that we need some hard and fast ground rules regarding 4th down playcalling.

If you're upset that I went for it on 4th and 2, then please have nelly take away the win and play the cpu. I'm the last one who would ever try to play with unsportsmanlike conduct. I've played against plenty of people in both dynasties from here and I've had that done to me many many times. I assumed 4th and short was acceptable because most people just do qb sneak and get it. I took more of a chance by throwing it. Anything more than 4th and 5 in your own territory is pushing it, but I've still had that done to me, too. I have punted plenty of times in other games. I think cene has played me more than anyone and he knows that I punt a lot.
I was leading by 7, but there were around if not more than 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter when I was only up by 7. We both know you can score in seconds. (you had done it several times this game) I think you did score quickly actually.
Again, if the commish or anyone else thinks I was wrong and his complaints are justified, please take the win away. However, if you do, please make a standard rule so that we know. Can you go for it on 4th and INCH, 4th and 1, or not at all in your own territory, not at all from behind the opponent's 40, etc.?

both your sides have been noted and a ruling will be issued in the morning.

I would have to say that going for it on 4th and 2 is acceptable, as well as the 4th and goal. I was playing a game in another dynasty and I knew I had to go for it on 4th down to either score and go up 14 or risk giving them the ball and having them score and tie the game late in the 4th. Both are situations where I believe going for it is ok. Ball control is so crucial in this game, you have to take chances on 4th down to keep the other user from getting control.
Now with that said if you have a person that goes for it every time they are at 4th down, like 4th and more than 5 and getting it with cheese dick plays, then you have a problem. Otherwise, tell you D to step up.
This is just my opinion, now i will GTFO and GFM

Alright, here it goes...
Seawolf, you do not have to vacate the win. It is ultimately up to the person on defense to make the stop and get the ball back. I can't fault you too much for keeping the ball, just like I couldn't fault you for the 2-pt conversion in our 360 game. We all know that if money and our asses were on the line that it is not the right call, but that is not the case.
EZ, I understand why you are pissed. It isn't how football is played usually, and I am surprised they havent kicked me off XBL for some of the things I've said to people who do that.
I did not think I needed to specify anti-cheesedicking rules as we are all in other leagues with eachother that have them and are, generally, well abided by. Here it is...NO CHEESEDICKING!!!
Now, here are general specifications for 4th down play.
1. Going for it by means of fake punt or fieldgoal is always acceptable.
2. If you are losing by less than 2 scores in the first half, it better be 4th and 3 or closer.
3. If you are losing by more than 2 scores, or in the second half, it is acceptable to go for it.
4. If you are winning, and you are not past your own 35, you must punt.
5. If you up by more than 10, you must punt or kick a fieldgoal.
6. If you are winning by less than 10, and past the 35. It is ok to try on 4th and 4 or less.
7. If it is tied, 4th and 4 or longer, you must kick.
I am posting these so that anyone may review and offer their feedback. I may or may not tweak the rules based on that feedback, but I think this is fair to both a team trying to make a comeback, and one trying to play keep-away to preserve a lead.

I agree with that, nelly. I know that I always try to play fairly and have no problem calling other players out with they do things that I'd consider unsportsmanlike.
I'm sorry ez that you felt like I cheated. I'm sure that if you hadn't been off for so long that you would have handed my my arse. I really don't go for it on every 4th down in every game, and like Kracka said, ball control and a good lead are crucial in this game. Hope there are no hard feelings.

this is definitely a game of inches, although first posession seems kinda pushing it but at 4th and 2 i probably would have gone for it as well. We all know how important scoring is so although its not "nice" on your first posession i see it as being ok.
The 4th and goal sucks arse but its the most common thing, i don't think any of us like kicking fg's unless we have to or we ahve a kicker who can drill them from 100yrds like fiddy

It's all good. I can see where you are coming from. I guess after you called the 4th down play on your first possession, I just assumed it was every 4th regardless of the situation.
That said I am personally a fan of more "realistic" playcalling, and I unnecessarily placed those expectations on your playcalling. If you feel like you need to make those plays to win, and we are all in agreement then I am good with it.
With many things in the digital realm, I think that this was more of a misunderstanding than anything else. But watch out b/c I'm installing a UF style offense here in Chapel Hill...
Nelly thanks for making those rulings, but that's a lot to remember IMO. What if we used a standard yardage, say 3 yards and a standard spread, say 14 points as a go no go constant in these situations?
For example:
1. Acceptable to go on 4th and 3 or less if the point spread is 14 or less.
2. Not acceptable to go on 4th and 4 or longer where the point spread is 14 or less.
3. Acceptable to go on 4th (any yardage) while behind 3 scores.
4. Not acceptable to go on 4th when the game is tied (except if the game is still tied with 3 minutes or less on the clock)

FYI, If its mid to late fourth quarter, I am up 3 or 7, and I have fourth and 2 I am going for it. No way am I giving the ball up for them to score. If I get burned, so be it, but it won't be because I voluntarily gave up the ball.

i agree. If i have 4th and 3 or less i'm going for it. Its not like real football where an inch is a mile here 3 yards is like 4th and inches with the right play.
