Pour one out

Pavlov’s, a well-known college bar in Columbia’s Five Points shopping and nightlife district, is set to close its doors, but two other Five Points bars owned by the same group will get to renew their alcohol licenses under agreements with a state agency.

Frick Dick Harpootlian. Drank a ton of bourbon and had a ton of good times with Jeff and Madison back in the day at Pavlov's. I can't imagine going to USC right now. Woke administration, student body is half Yankees, neutered Greek life and now Five Points bars being shut down left and right. No way in hell would I recommend my kids go there and that's a painful thing to say.

$2 liquor drinks, cocaine on demand and hundreds of drunk and horny sorority girls. The insides could've been lined with shite and I'd have gone there.

Between Pavlov's getting shut down and Sharky's closing years ago, where will the frat boys go now?

I went once. To each their own but you'll feel totally out of place if you don't look like this:

When i was there it was something else (can’t remember what it was called but older dudes used to make fun of it)
It was where the TKEs and underage guidos without a fake would go

Looks like it was called the Horseshoe last (and is now closed)

All I'll say is it's a sad state of affairs with regards to gamecock sports when the thread that gets the most traction here is one about a bar closing in 5 pts...

I never went to Pavlov's but once. I didn't party, and was all around more low-key than the clientele that went there.

Still, it was synonymous with a significant portion of the undergrad culture, and is another cultural touchstone that the university and city of Cola have willingly tossed aside in the name of "progress."

I think Jungle Jim's is what we now know as Parrothead's or Thirsty Parrot which is right next to the Horseshoe. Horseshoe was known as Grandma's when I started going there in high school. They used to do a power hour where you paid like $15 to drink as many drinks as you possibly could in an hour.

Looks like all those names/bars were the same 724 Harden Street according to Google
And grandmas sounds familiar when I was there 2010-14
Can’t fricking remember for the life of me though (must have killed those memories)

When I was an undergrad Jungles was around. SLED was in there all the time. Then the old China Garden became "New Jungles" because I guess it had the same owners. Not sure what became of it because I was a Salty Nut and Pavlovs guy when I was an undergrad.

I was passing through Columbia the other day and decided to cruise through Five Points. Holy hell is it depressing now. A literal wasteland.

Harpootlian and everyone that has allowed this to happen can get fricked. They've destroyed a central part of USC's culture and commerce, and have intentionally made it so that drunk college kids will be driving around town to get to house parties instead of keeping them in one centralized area. All because the neighbors of Five Points are mad that THEY decided to move in next to a college bar scene.

It's clear that this ultimately will benefit McMaster and the other slum lords who have been looking to redevelop Five Points for years. They want to get in on all of the money that is moving down south, yet they don't realize that there is absolutely no draw for outsiders to Columbia. It will all be for nothing.

Pavlov's and the other Five Points dives were a huge part of my college years and my love for USC, and I hate that the students of today won't have a similar experience.

Also regarding five points (and the guy who owns pavlovs)
Saw this article as well:
The guy who owns a few spots (Jake’s and Pavs are/were two) involved in some kind of drug ring.
They say it’s Marijuana?!? I don’t doubt the politicians behind it to get them out, and like you said, build up the 5 points area.

quote:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The owner of several bars in Five Points faces drug charges after a recent arrest.

Jonathan Sears, 39, is the co-owner of The Bird Dog, The Cotton Gin, The Gourmet Shop, Jake’s Bar and Pavlovs in Five Points, as well as Hendrix in downtown Columbia.

He is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and a separate charge of possession with intent to distribute near a school. No drug is listed in relation to that charge.

There’s another article from FitsNews that doesn’t think it’s weed.

But pretty interesting that he owns Pavs and now it’s closing.
Don’t know why I didn’t put two and two together at first
