For the combo of quality and price, no doubt the best value.

who said that. If I go somewhere that would be considered a landmark, Im going with things that they or the city is known for.

Feel free to have green beans at popeyes then. I myself will stick with the red beans there too

I would think your expectations for green beans was a bit much then

Right, I knew its reputation for fried chicken.

And it didn't live up to the hype.

Not knowing anything about any of the oh so sacred side dishes, I could only assume they were all going to be above average, since the place got such praise.

Just to tell you, I ate 2 pieces of dark fried chicken at Jazz Fest for $5 that were very close to Willie Mae's. It just isn't anything I'd go out of my way for again. I eat fried chicken maybe once every 3 months, so...

I will say again that the james beard award was not for the chicken. Willie maes received an american classics award not an award for the best fried chicken. The american classics award is for neighborhood places serving good food that have been around a while. Now it has been touted by some as the best fried chicken in the country but I don't find it that good. Just my humble opinion.

I dunno . . . maybe the thousands of Cajuns that have moved to the city over the years and influenced the local Creole cuisine.

By the way, I really want to try McHardy's. Maybe if we leave JazzFest early we'll take some home.

Nothing really cajun about new orleans

I think he meant red beans and rice and cajun rice are "local" to popeyes...

Other than there, most people call it dirty rice...
