How about grits? Never ever have I cooked grits like the packaged instructions said. Even instant grits for that matter. Maybe for Yankees but, grits need longer time then what is in print on package.

My wife cook very occasionally, and never without a recipe. It took years, but she lets me look at the recipes 1st so I can correct things like cooking times and seasoning before she starts. Last week she showed me one that called for a tablespoon of cumin on a can of garbanzo beans, I pared it down to 1/2 tsp.
