1PD: Wild Turkey 17

Finally killed the last pour in my bottle.

2PD: Old Scout 107 (Ralph's Market Pick)

Have they started sourcing from somewhere other than MGP? There is a decent peanut funk on this. I don't mind some nuttiness but I'm really not enjoying it. It's too much. The 2nd to last bottle of Old Scout I've bought was a store pick from Total Wine in Kenner. It's just undrinkable. I've never had a peanut butter flavored whiskey but those brands can't have more peanut flavor than that bottle. It's terrible.

I know for a while they changed sourcing and went to Dickel, but every pick I’ve had in the past couple years has been MGP. Maybe something changed in the last few months but not that I know of.

Check your bottle, it should say where it was distilled.

I’m bout to get DV’d, but that Rebel 100 is better than Weller green and red. I’ll accept my punishment now

No pics tonight, but:

1PD finished a bottle of Italian Shiraz
2PD Jack single barrel barrel proof
3PD for my nightcap is currently Blue Run high rye, which I still don’t like. Way too much licorice, and I hate licorice. Ugh. Not a cheap bottle

There are not many $40 bottles better than OWA out there. It’s the only Weller worth the hype.

No downvote though

ETA. To clarify. Full Proof and 12yr are great bottles, but I’m only giving a handjob for an OWA.

But

There are plenty of awesome bottles in that price range

I agree there are tons of great bottles in that price range. I don’t chase allocated stuff much anymore. I love trying new stuff, so I have plenty of bottles I enjoy. But I would put OWA up against anything. It’s that good.

Just my opinion.

I’m fairness I am very hit or miss with wheaters. Weller is a wheat that is off putting to me, whereas rebel has the wheat profile I really enjoy. I did like the 12 when I tried it, but the OWA didn’t do it for me.

Rebel 100 is criminally underrated, and their barrel selects are excellent. I finally got the opportunity to try my friend’s Rebel 10yr and absolutely loved it. I would take that over Wellers, but again that’s just my palate preference.

EHT is excellent though, so I’m with you there
