I make them all the time. Only make them with Ryes though. Michters being my favorite to use. If you want to be lazy and have a really good one still, use Bittermilk. Really good stuff. You can order it online or if you're in the laffy area, Joey's sells all of the bittermilk recipes.

I also like the summertime bitters made in Nola.

I drank 6 old fashioneds this past Saturday night. I don't even remember the 6th. I too rather them with rye but don't mind a bourbon old fashioned as well.

So the game got to you too huh?
I actually had a bartender make me an old fashioned Saturday. When I asked if she made a good one, she tells me "oh yea, I just served a table 15 of them." She then proceeded to bring out what was an equivalent to mimosas with bourbon in it and tells me her secret ingredient is OJ. Moral is, never OJ an old fashioned, never.

I have a better story for you. I was in Louisville this past June, staying at the Downtown Hilton. One night my wife and I went to the hotel bar. I ordered an old fashioned with makers 46. The chick brings me a drink in a martini glass. I guess I had a "wtf" look on cause she's asks what's wrong. I said where im from we don't drink old fashioneds in martini glasses
