I've been using the big green egg brand since I've started using the BGE but $25 a bag seems a little steep. What are some other cheaper options that are just as good?
Which do you use and how much per bag? Tia

I think that the BGE charcoal is made by Cowboy charcoal, which is some of the worst reviewed lump charcoal on the market. I don't have a BGE, but love to use Stubb's All Natural Charcoal Briquettes.

Winn Dixie, large sized bag, goes for about ten or a litlle less.+

LUMP, I think I know what a briquette looks like. The have two varities, one is made with a bit of mesquite wood included.

Good link. But I don't have time to read about all that lump charcoal.
Is there a Top 5?
Tell me the Top 5 and where it can be bought, and I am done troubling you.

WalMart carries Royal Oak.
Goodwood Hardware carries Ozark Oak.
Both highly rated.

Royal Oak
Cowboy is absolute shite - had two bags of it, and could never get my rig over 300 no matter how much I put in.

Those are pretty big bags though. I've been using the Kroger brand Lump Charcoal
ETA: This seems to be the best reviewed.

A couple of years ago, I bought both a bag of BGE and Royal Oak, and mixed the two together in a bin. Could not tell the difference. After that, I just used the Royal Oak - was cheaper and easier to find.

Restaurant Depot (on Broad in NOLA) sells BIG bags of Royal Oak for $7.99/bag. Can't recall exactly how many lbs, but it's way bigger than the bags of RO at WallyWorld.
