Where can i find a bone in beef rib with roast?

Im looking to smoke a big chunk of beef ribs and i want the roast still attached. I was surprised costco only had the boneless rib roast. Do i need to specialty order this from the butcher?

Albertson's has them sometimes but it is usually around a holiday of some sort.

I’m confused. Are you wanting to eat beef ribs or a rib roast/prime rib?

You want plate ribs. Good luck, they are hard to find. It will take a request from a specialty butcher. Your best bet is to get chuck ribs and ask your meat dept to trim lightly. Short ribs and back ribs are the smaller ones you have pictured and are a poor substitute for bbq/smoking.

So you want the short ribs. Go to the grocery store and ask for the short plate. It is what they cut up when you see the little square short ribs. Just ask for a short plate pre-cut.
The ribs attached to the rib roast are the back ribs and if you buy a bone in rib roast and then slice it leaving more meat on the ribs then you are just screwing up the rib roast.

[/URL][/img] I smoked these this weekend. If this is what you want, you want the short plate rib cut (the whole cut that comes out of the cryovac from the meat processor, untrimmed by store butcher). I got mine from Brookshires, it took a minute to find someone who knew what the hell I was talking about, so be patient!

I've gotten them from 2 places in BR.
Costco has chuck short ribs. They were not on display when I bought them, but I asked the guys in the back and they brought me some. Iverstines has both chuck and plate short ribs and you can ask them to cut the ribs whatever size you want.
Both turned out great in my opinion.
