Usually means they were long dead when cooked, or they could have been grossly overcooked.
But my initial gut feeling is they were dead when they hit the pot.
A fair indicator is if the tails were more straight out instead of curled under in a "C" shape.

Nah, it means overcooked. Unless they're smashed up dead, it really doesn't matter. Straight tail could just be from how they settled in the pot.

It means it’s 2020. Run across plenty similar examples this year. Bummer

Probably something else.
If overcooked it would apply to the whole batch. I usually find a couple everytime I eat crawfish. Like he said, the meat is soft (mushy) and the meat comes apart when trying to pull it out. Meanwhile all the other crawfish meat is firm.
But I don't know what causes it. Maybe diseased?
ETA: I'm going with they were already dead theory. A bad sack like a bad bag of potatoes that sat around to long. I imagine some get caught dead in the trap and are already starting to decompose.

You can tell a true coonass when someone at a crawfish boils says don’t eat the dead ones and you know what they mean.
Or when you see a road sign that says “fat females with eggs” and you know what that means.

It means you purchased them from Rouses. I'm not sure how they consistently mess up crawfish, but they do.

Probably cooked the day before, refrigerated and then reheated. Texture changes big time. They won’t all be the same, depending on size, hardness of the shell and how hot they got in the soak to reheat them.

because they put them in ice chests when they dump them out of the boil pot and the residual heat cooks them even more.
And if you don't think that, you don't know shite about how residual heat, confined in an insulated space can continue the cooking process.

In all honesty, I'm both. Coonass and I can't remember the first time I ever ate crawfish since I was too young to remember more than likely.
Lord, I'd love to have a dollar for every pound of crawfish I've eaten in my 67 years.

It means they were dead. Probably for days.
You’d have to boil them for an hour for this to happen.

It’s the dreaded BR area soak method rearing it’s ugly head.

This is a myth. Straight tail just means it was crowded and didn’t have room to curl.
