The Chicken with cheese and bacon poboy was outstanding last time I was there. Also the home made crab cakes were good.

You sure about them being "home made"?

Although, the crab cakes are a little better than what I thought they'd be. So maybe they are.

I actually went into the kitchen and watched them being made so yes the ones I had were home made.

wow, so LL you work there? My family is always up in there...my father in law drives from Central to eat there probably twice a month. One of our favorite places since moving to Shenandoah a few years back.

Cool...I could tell that their crab cakes were better than what another poster described as a "crab cakes, fries & coke" kinda cake.

Service has been lacking at Coursey ever since Gugich left to fulfill his dreams of becoming a Tug Boat captain.

I've mostly had good experiences at Dempsey's...I do miss Kendra though.

i grew up in Shenandoah and we'd go all the time. My mom used to get a huge thing of seafood gumbo for my brother and me so she wouldn't have to cook. i still maintain its one of the best gumbos you can get at a restaurant in town. because of this thread, i'm going to swing by the Jefferson location for lunch.

Its nothing in particular. I just prefer a real liquidly type gumbo(is that even a word?)

Portobello's makes tasty gumbos...Mucho better than Dempsey's IMO.

Each location has a different kitchen manager, and customers have said that Jefferson is better than Coursey.. and vice versa. I really couldn't tell you because I never go to Coursey for work or dining.

No offense, but your idea of gumbo isn't really gumbo Dempsey's Chicken and Sausage is definitely thick, I agree, but coming from you .. meh.

Plus, the seafood is completely different in consistency than the chicken. It's not as thick.
