Love me some Asian pearl. I've been in the Lafayette area for 4 years and have yet to find any take out asian restaurant to compete.

I personally think Curbside is kinda overrated, sorry.
Kinda?

I suppose our definition of "overrated" is different.
Quality and consistency is what I want from a restaurant.
I've never missed that in those places I listed.

...and I've never experienced it at the places you listed.
Had two horrible experiences at Flemings. After the first bad time (orders screwed up, steak overcooked, etc.) I was given a credit to use towards a future visit. On the return visit, the entire staff watched the LSU-Tennessee game instead of making our food. Guess what the manager offered -- another credit (he didn't know we were already there for our "give us another chance" visit.) Pathetic.
Superior Grill has been nothing more than average Tex-Mex on my numerous visits. It's been consistent... consistently average.
As for Sammy's, I will say that the Highland location is definitely superior to the other locations. Still, kinda like The Chimes and Dempsey's and George's, there's nothing special about it, and nothing there that stands out. It screams average.
As for Maison Lacour, it has been consistently superb (by Baton Rouge standards, anyway). Not to mention every woman I have taken there has loved it.

To each his own.
I'll Take Flemings over MLacour everyday of the week for higher end places.
Everything for many people on here is always "average"
Wtf do you people want out of a place like masons or Sammy's.?
geeeeeez.
Like I said... I want consistency and quality meal.
Ive always gotten both.... Maybe you just expect too much?

Don't feel alone. I haven't either. My last trip to Sammy's I had their seafood gumbo, and the shrimp was garbage, complete mush.
The loved for Masons is really odd IMO.I haven't found anything there that is above mediocre. The burgers are okay I suppose, but nothing more than Sysco hockey pucks and Hawaiian sweet buns. It's not that magical. I've eaten there probably 6 or 7 times, and there just anything much to write home about.
And as for Maison Lacour. I'm pretty sure it's just not what the Sammy's, Masons, and Flemmings crowd is looking for, and neither is Roberto's, and that's fine, but it is what it is.

Something better than I can make at home, justifying why I'd go there and pay to eat it.

That's pretty much the gist of it all. I enjoy cooking, and take pride in what I cook. If I'm going to a supposed professional, my expectations are much higher, and when I'm paying money for it, it should be.

Exactly.

Flemings over Mason Lacour? Madness...

Let me tell you a place that doesn't really get any pub on here, but should, and that's Bin 77. They have a new chef there now that is shinning it hard. I had a confit pulled duck and fresh pasta with greens the other night that was outstanding. I had left Beausoliel kind of underwhelmed and still hungry, and I don't need a ton to eat, but it just wasn't enough. Met some friends at Bin 77, and ordered that dish to fill up and was very impressed. I got a chance to chat with him, and he's trying to bring it. He is accomplished, and has a lot of experience from stints in Chicago, Miami, and elsewhere under some pretty nice tutelage. If you're interested in serious food, I would highly recommend giving them a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Will definitely check it out.

Bin 77 has legit small plates, as does The Loft.

Anybody tried that place downtown, I think it's called Zolia??
Posted on 3/27/13 at 9:39 pm to Warchild
Very good food, but a bit pricey. I have a panini for lunch fairly regularly, which I find to be a better value than most dinner items.

I was interested in trying their tapas...
