Don't know how common they are in the South (maybe really common) but I grew up on a farm that had tons of huge hickory trees, and there's not many things better as a kid than grabbing a handful of hickory nuts and putting them in your Dad's vise until they splinter into a billionty pieces and you can get the nut out of there. They are a pain in the arse to get to, but damn they're tasty.

What?...Brazil nuts and cheese are a great combo. If you like cheese, give it a shot. Sharp cheddar is my favorite to pair with them.
