Speaking of this, if you haven’t already, check out Loro. It’s an Asian/BBQ fusion place from Franklin and Tyson Cole of Uchi and Uchiko. Best brisket sandwich in the world.

Oh for real? That’s awesome. I used to live down the block from their location in Bishop Arts in Dallas and would go fairly often. I’m a fan.

Loro’s has been on my list for a while but I haven’t made it yet. Definitely need to.

It’s worth it. The corn fritters are amazing too.

I’m going to be in Austin this weekend. I’ll be honest I don’t need 3 pounds of meat for myself, lol.

Where should I check out? Is anywhere open for dine in? I checked out Stiles and it appears they are.

And I haven’t seen it mentioned in this thread but is Cooper’s over in Llano still any good? Haven’t been to the area in a while.

I haven’t had Stiles Switch yet but I know people who swear by it. There’s a coopers downtown now, although I don’t know their situation with Covid.

Most places are open for limited dine in at this point in my experience. Are you just looking for BBQ?

ETA: looks like the downtown location is doing takeout only

Stiles is supposed to be real good. I haven’t eaten any BBQ since getting down here because I got a stick burner and started to make my own.

I can give some other recs though if you’d like:
Fusion - Loro (Asian/bbq)
bar peached, East side king (Asian/Mexican)
Mexican - suerte, ATX cocina (upscale)
Veracruz, el chilito (tacos)
Indian - graj mahal, Asiana, Bombay dhaba (food truck)
Pizza - home slice (NY style), via 313 (Detroit style and so damn good)
Seafood - perlas
Sushi - uchi, Soto, kome
Burgers - Dan’s (the GOAT)
“American” - salty sow, lenoir, nightcap

Still good as of a year ago. Maybe the best pork chop I’ve ever had. Brisket is unconventional but good. Plenty of great bbq in the city too. Franklin (of course), La bbq, valentinas, Leroy and Lewis is a newer food truck that does some cool stuff. Haven’t been to stiles in a while.

Honestly, the drive from BR is about the same wait time as peak line might be worth it.

Stiles is a solid BBQ option if you don't want to wait in line. I don't believe they have any minimum amount of food to order takeout as well. Their sides are also very good and they brew their own beer.

Coopers in Llano is good - better than Stiles probably. But I'd rather go to Stiles instead of make the 1.5 hour ish drive out there. There are better places in Austin, like Valentina's.

I still need to try Snow's. It's only open on Saturdays and people get their super early like Franklin, but they open at 8am. The pitmaster is an 80 year old lady.

I was going to go with some friends and bring beer and chairs, but then COVID happened and I bought my smoker. Still need to try it though.

I had a coworker who made the trip out there and said it was amazing.

It’s very good but they definitely are an old school type of operation and don’t use the same quality stuff as Franklin or have the options some other places do. When you get there and see the food you may say “this is it?”. But it’ll be worth it. Brisket was really good in spite of being kind of dry, which is impressive.

My thoughts would be to drive in the day before and then pickup the next day. Have a nice lunch somewhere (probably in my truck ) and then pack the rest in a cooler for the drive home.

Working from home and not much else going on so I'm definitely going to do it when the Mrs. and I get back from vacation at the beginning of August.

Y’all are awesome. I think I’m gonna swing by Stiles for sure. Seems like a cool spot and you can still eat in.

Was in Austin over Labor Day and ponied up for the 3 lb takeout minimum at Franklin.....brisket and piled pork. After years of hearing the hype and crazy media coverage, I can say that it is damn fine BBQ....but it didn’t blow my mind. City Market in Luling, among other places, has equally good brisket.

Carry on.
