I call it an "egg in a basket". I know one person who calls it an "egg on the floor".

Birds in a nest.

BTW, I knew EXACTLY what you were asking about before I even opened the post. It has a bunch of different names.

Put a hole in the middle of a piece of bread. Put the bread in a frying pan and put the egg in the middle.

Bird in a nest, but I've heard it called an egg in a basket too.

The way we do it:
--butter both sides of a piece of bread.
--cut a hole in the center of the bread with a biscuit cutter
--put bread in hot pan
--crack egg into hole
--flip until done to enough to your liking

I use a biscuit cutter to cut circles in the bread. Save them for toast.
Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Coat both sides of bread with butter.
Place bread in skillet, crack egg in the hole of each slice, cook as you would a fried egg. For hard fried, break the yolk after it sets a bit, and flip.
