How is vegetable oil poison? Please elaborate, I am generally interested.
Because they are processed with a petroleum solvent to extract the oil. It’s not a natural process like coconut or avocado for example

Shouldn't make a blanket statement as there are multiple methods of extraction.
Not all oils are extracted using a solvent.

I've done this before. I've gone back to mostly vegetable oil, with occasional bacon fat mixed in. The problem with lard/bacon fat, is the smoke point is much lower than vegetable oil. I heat my oil up very high, right up until smoke point, then add my flour. I have my roux ready for onions in about 10 minutes.
Also, as delicious as using lard is...it's incredibly unhealthy, and i have a family history of high cholestoral. So i've been trying to cut back on unneeded artery cloggers. Vegetable oil probably isn't much better, and i'm sure the sausage in my gumbo isnt' helping things.

The vast majority of the "bad seed oils" are extracted using a solvent though, don't you think?

How is lard (not the processed, shelf-stable kind) unhealthy?
Vegetable oil is far worse for you.

Yes, you are probably right.
Don't have numbers to back it up, but I would imagine so.

If you're telling me leaf lard is healthier than vegetable oil, and can give me something to read on that, i'd be a happy man.

It’s not a blanket statement. I’m talking about Vegetable oil

Are all vegetable oils extracted with solvent?

Most of that is removed though. I don't use vegetable oil but trace amounts of hexane aren't going to worry me too much. Are there studies showing that a lot of the oils have significant amounts of hexane? The EU set a limit and I assume most oils will be below that limit.

Yes, by using extreme heat to evaporate it, which causes oxidation of the vegetable oil.
They're a bad product any way you look at it.

I agree about it being a bad product. I think poison is a little strong though.

I don't. Vegetable oils are increasingly being linked to vascular inflammation, which predispose to atherosclerosis. This is made even worse by the fact that they are generally touted as being "healthy".

More than just vascular from what I am told.

I have a real bitch of a neighbor that lives around the corner. She is on the HOA board and makes everyone's life hell every chance she gets.
Used oil goes into her ditch late before bedtime the evening of the fry.
