Gotcha. There is no such requirement. The smallest ribeye is 2 pounds, according to him. It used to be 1 1/2 pound. There is no discouragement from splitting the steaks, that's the idea. It's why they have a 2 and 3 pound sirloin and 24 oz to 3 pound porterhouses.

If you're by yourself, does this mean you're forced to eat this $44 steak if you want steak? Yeah, it's technically $22/lb but unless you're with someone to split it with, it's still a lot of money and you have no other steak option.. (again, i've never been just going by this thread)

Gotcha. Well, I've never been there on a date for sure. When I go, it's with my buddies. We usually get a few big steaks and split them. Each of us usually get a pound of steak and a good amount of the homemade fries. They're pretty damn good.

I hear the salad isn't that good. I don't eat it anyway as I'm not really a salad person.

Cooked, in a lot of places right now, it's been close to that. And the steaks there start at $18/pound, fwiw.

i was simply pointing out that he was trying to compare the price of doe's to sammys where at sammys he was ordering an obnoxious amount of food to a rather small portion of food at doe's.

For sure. I personally wouldn't like the idea of Doe's, but I can respect that some people do. But what I was just posting about was the dude telling me that crawfish is the same price.. and it's simply not.

I can get completely full on crawfish, potatoes, and corn for $12 before drinks. (At Don's.. where I go eat crawfish.. I rarely go to Sammy's but I certainly hope their crawfish isn't that much)

the salad is actually good in terms of taste but it is literally 3 bites and its gone

its in the same bowl that the new potatoes come in and its not even filled up

sucks that this thread had to be rehashed but the other guys comparison was ridiculous

I don't dine out for crawfish much because I love my patio too much, but we went last week and it was $3.69..

this thread has convinced me that I never really need to eat at Doe's ever again, and to never eat crawfish in Baton Rouge. And for that, I am thankful

I'm not sure why one would go there alone, but they can get a $33 choice porterhouse that's 1.5 pounds plus a side and a salad. They could also get a 2 pound sirloin for $36 to make at least two meals out of.

With that being said, I've never seen anyone there alone. You go there to split huge steaks and drink beer.

I'm not going to sit here and argue sematincs. If it's $4/pound, that's what it is. Point being, it's about $20 to eat crawfish. It's about $20 per person for a steak, salad and fries.

We're not talking a huge discrepancy here. It's not in a league with Ruth's, it's just not. You can easily eat for about $20 plus tip/person at Does. If you want a 2 pound Ribeye for yourself, that's a different thing entirely.

you should manage your expectations upon entering this eatery........

its a niche' restrnt.....known for gigantic steaks. 1st one was in greenville (very small town with no other options), then in Little Rock (again, at the time....no other real options).

if you want a 2-3-4lb steak wearing your cutoff shorts and camo hat, go here.....have some tamales.....otherwise, if you are in the mood for a nice dinner - go somehwere else......

managing expectations is the key.

+ 1.

Doe's is a different type of place, it's a dive and it's supposed to be that way. Every single dollar spent on your experience goes to pay for the meat and the ovens it is cooked in. The one in Greenville is easily in the top 5 for best steak in IMO. This location in BR might be doing things differently and it might suck in comparison to the original. The one in Oxford as not very good and closed only a year or two after it opened. This might be the case in BR.

Imho, the OP let the look and feel of the place get his opinion of the steak down. Had he known what to expect, his experience would have been much more enjoyable.

Doe's is the kind of place where you bring your own bottle. The only way you'd know that if from having been there, so you have a point as well. When I go to Doe's and want to drink wine, I always bring it. If not, I drink beer there.

Doe's is just a strange bird. It's really a love it, or hate it type joint.

The petite filet and fries that come with it is fantastic. It is a casual, fun place for great steaks. I only order the filet. I don't like any other cut, but that's just me. The fried shrimp is great too.
