We're also thinking about a "no cell phone" policy too. You spend all of that money on a photographer for them to compete with cell phone flashes and people standing in the isle to get their next Facebook post.

100%

Photos at the party will happen but put your phone away at the wedding.

Bad idea. Phone pics = more pics...plus don't deprive your guests of a memory. They won't have access to your wedding album later.

ETA: talking mainly about the reception. Won't bother me for the ceremony, hopefully people have enough sense to leave flash off.

I've also been to a lot of weddings (been in a ton too) and I've seen enough to want me to consider this. I've also heard from a few photographers that like the idea.

ETA: I should also say that I'm mainly talking about the wedding, not the reception. Also, if you're having fun on the dance floor you can care less about your cell phone.

Whatever floats your boat, but that sounds insane to me.

I don't think there's much about the wedding and reception planning that is "sane".

I think maybe kindly asking guests to be respectful with their photography is fine. Not sure how I would feel about possibly having someone stand outside the church collecting phones and cameras

A reminder before the ceremony to silence phones and turn off flashes would be a fine alternative.

That's ridiculous IMO.

We did it successfully. You are paying good money to have photographer there that's doing a better job than they could dream of doing.

Everyone taking photos gets in the way.

When I was an usher at my buddies, we were just told to tell people to not take photos if we saw them playing in their case phone

Just like "hey quick reminder, please silence your phones and keep them in your purse/pocke during the weddingt."

My photographer seemed to manage just fine. And based off facebook, many people took cell phone pics at my wedding.

Just to be clear, you're saying you told all your guests no cell phones allowed in the church?

I bet they do!

I think cell phones are one of those things you just have to (potentially but hopefully not) deal with. If your crazy uncle stands on the pew to record your vows, c'est la vie. I've been to one wedding with a basket for phones. Mine did not go into it.

Personally, the most important thing is not to be a bride/groom-zilla. The party will reflect the mood of the honorees. Three people need to be having fun: the bride, the groom, and the father of the bride. After that things will go fine.

That logic goes out the window when you have a big family with a lot of kids that all usually either use family of the same sitters. Even more so for family from out of town that has to travel.

We had kids at our wedding and besides the cute pictures of them from the reception, you'd never have known they were there. If your venue charges you full price for them, I understand excluding them. Otherwise, it's not worth the hassle it causes other people IMO.

You'll be amazed how much you don't notice on the actual day.

We've had this argument before.

I'm glad you had a good wedding and didn't mind having kids there. That's just not my style. And if it causes hassle for other people, they have the option to not come, no big deal to me. Just two less people I have to pay for.

We're having our officiant tell people no pictures during the wedding itself, because people are either ignorant that they are ruining professional photos of the wedding or they are just assholes and don't care. I tend to believe it's the first.

No cell phones for the entire reception is way overboard, though.

Agree. On our way to the honeymoon the next morning the facebook pictures started coming in. It was great seeing the different perspectives and hey look Tim was there! I barely said hello!

How do you know they're ruining professional pics?

Are you also limiting people from sneezing, making any weird face at all, etc. just so they don't ruin the pictures?

This seems incredibly over controlling to me.

My brothers it was none at the wedding and discouraged at the party.

Pictures of you and your date or some friends is fine but it's not your job to document the party. We hired someone for that

Our ceremony is going to be about 15 minutes. I don't think asking people not to pull out their cell phones and hover them above the crowd so they can get a snapchat for 15 minutes is asking that much.

At the reception? Hell go nuts.

Obviously I don't "know" they're ruining it because I'm not clairvoyant - but it sure as hell minimizes the risk that they would.

All good points about no cell phones throughout the entire deal. It's hard not to sound like one extreme or the other on here. But in this day and age, people need to be reminded not to be a d***. If I say no cell phones and someone snaps pictures, I don't expect anyone to be the ushers at the Baton Rouge River Center Theater. Cops were called on someone taking pictures at the Bob Dylan concert. THAT was ridiculous.

My whole premise is giving everyone a gentle reminder and leverage to shoot down the annoying one person that forgets to silent their iphone shutter noise. I hope to not be bride and groomzilla.
