Spending a long weekend in Houston for a wedding next week. Staying at the Houston Marriott Westchase, which I think is near the Galleria.

Looking for recommendations for fairly casual bars with a good craft beer selection, within walking distance if possible.

Recs for casual restaurants also welcome. Will have the wife and two young kids, but I can shed them at night to do a little drankin. TIA.

It is not within walking distance of the Galleria. Not a ton of choices in that area unless you go down to Chinatown or up to the Town and Country\CityCentre area near 10 and beltway.

Nick's Place is little west of there (driving distance), but is a good hole in the wall spot for NFL Sunday ticket. Decent pizza.

Whole Foods Post Oak is the best craft brew in the in the Galleria, but Mariott Westchase is in BFE. There's a Sherlocks and a Chilis nearby

Thanks. Any breweries other than Saint Arnold relatively close and worth visiting for day drinking?

Good luck.

Uber into the city if you want a decent bar.

Take a cab down Westheimer to Hops meets Barley, Doc's, Hay Merchant. A bit further than that is Axelrad.

West Alabama Ice house is short Uber away. The weather should be really nice so it is good to sit outside. Plus they have some of the best tacos in the city.

Not the best beer selection but they typically have all the Houston beers. Last time I was there they had a few of Saint Arnolds Bishop Barrels

Kirby Ice House is a newer bar that is near by. Lots of TVs and lots of taps. Big Porch.

Sort of.

Galleria is not within walking distance. About the only thing within walking distance of your hotel is Sherlocks. The beer selection will be ok.

You'll need to Uber/taxi to anywhere not named Sherlocks. Flying Saucer downtown is the usual huge beer selection place. If you dont want to go all the way downtown there is Yard House at Town & Country which is Beltway 8 @ I-10 Options are expanding pretty rapidly. In the Galleria Area there is the West End.

Several of the midtown, upper kirby and Montrose bars have been covered except for Hay Merchant. Next to the Saucer they have one of the widest selections of beer.
