Is there a noticeable difference in quality between a Butterball at.99 per lb and a .49 per lb Turkey?

Ah, you saw the Winn-Dixie weekly sales ad. I got a 14 lb. Butterball this morning and the butcher was stocking the one for $.49 a lb. since they were selling almost as quick as he was putting them out.
To answer your question, I've bought the cheaper turkeys many times and used them to fry when I had my big T-Day party and I could not tell any difference.
However, this year I'm having serious issues with a broken foot and that party is not going to happen so I opted for the Butterball and am going to smoke it after brining it for a day or so and it will just be 4 of us, no 25-30 like it usually is.

I have been getting Ohio raised, free range Turkeys for the past several years, and the taste is exponentially better. They do cost $4.59 a pound this year.
But as someone who dislikes turkey (we're also doing a standing rib roast this year), it actually tastes really good.
I know I would try to avoid a bird that is injected with solution.
But you're basically asking which is better, a McDonald's cheeseburger or a white castle slider.

I wouldn't think so. Unless it's organic/free range/heritage then I imagine they're all in mostly the same conditions getting fed mostly the same feed.

Is that Bowman Landes? They are 4.59 a pound but it's 40 bucks shipping to LA

Yes!
They are incredibly good, I can personally vouch for them. I would recommend getting just the breasts as an option as well.
ETA: Maybe team up with a few friends and each get one from there to spread out the shipping cost. I'm not sure if its because they feed them their own in-house grain or what, but they are the best birds I've ever had by a mile.
