The Pizza Man of Covington, or for those of us who were there, Bob’s Pizza of Houma.

Friend,
It has been quite a busy week of pizza eating, as we have weaved our way through the Gulf Coast the last week. We are now busily preparing for Front Day, as we plan on having 25 drinking chocolates on offer for the party, to which all of you, dear friends, are warmly invited.
We rarely make a visit to Covington, but I promise on our next visit, we will give The Pizza Man a try and report back with details. If memory is not mistaken, we were surprisingly impressed by Bob's Pizza in Houma. This was many years ago on a trip to the Houma Mardi Gras. I remember thinking that it tasted almost identical to Tower Pizza. I believe both pizzerias you mention have roots in Tower of Pizza, which is the root stock of modern New Orleans Metro pizza.
Business took us to Houston to start the week. I had read an article about Gold Tooth Tony's in Houston being one of the best pizzas in America. Flabergasted -- Houston has good pizza? -- I had to try it. It is located in a strip mall down a street with lots of roadwork. It is not an impressive storefront and is not amenable to most walkers. The inside is a bit scattered and they would not accept cash.
The waitress recommended the Hunger Force, which had a exceedingly watery and tasteless ricotta plopped on it. The owner was present and I expected that would make a difference. Sadly, it was a very average pizza in the 5 range and not worthy of city acclaim, and laughable that anyone would include it in a national list.
We met up with Cousin in Pensacola later in the week where we did a mini-pizza tour. We tried Sky's, Angelena's, and Pizzalute in that order, as are the pictures, and were quite pleased with each. Sky's is always a reliable NY pie. Angelena's, though, was an exceptional Neapolitan that ranks well with some of the best in America. Pizzalute was decent, though, they use too much flour to coat the bottom, leaving a grainy texture to each bite. 7.2, 8.1, and 6.8 scores, respectively.
Thinking about the week, I would be remiss in omitting that the pizza week actually began with a 50% off pizza at our Mid-City Domino's. Pro tip: when they run a 50% off menu price pizza and you want lots of toppings, get the Extravaganzza, and substitute toppings you do not want. The specialty pie, retails for $20 and comes with eight toppings. To build your own, it would run $24 for eight toppings. I ended up with this beauty, coming in at an eye popping 34 ounces for just $10!
Yours,
TulaneLSU

That place has been there for as long as I can remember anything being anywhere. Gotta love the staying power especially these days. But it’s far now and haven’t had it in a long time.
