. . . the best BBQ chain in TX.

Pretty high praise coming from Daniel Vaughn.

surprised none of their houston locations, like the new one in the heights, has one. will have to keep a lookout for them

Most of the locations up to this point have operated in areas of Texas underserved by great barbecue. It’s not that hard to be some of the best barbecue in Midland, Odessa, or Killeen, but soon True Texas BBQ will open in the heart of Central Texas barbecue country. The next one will come to Slaughter Lane in South Austin, not far from one of Texas Monthly’s Top 50 barbecue joints, Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ. I don’t expect H-E-B to offer the best barbecue in Austin, but they’ve earned more than just accidental visits from barbecue snobs.

Good strategy. And "chain" is the key word here. The bbq chains in Houston are VERY underwhelming, and I imagine it's the same elsewhere, so I dont doubt the author. I'd try it. I love everything else HEB does.

I've been to the one in Midland, it's pretty meh.

Brisket House or Pappas BBQ is better in my opinion if we're comparing chains.

I could be mistaken but I think the one at San Felipe and Fountainview has one.

don't think so, it used to be a restaurant, but now is a roastery (coffee).

Right they have the central market high end HEB...prob no bbq in there.

I used to LOVE luther's bbq when i was a lad. It was absolutely not the best bbq anywhere (although I was never disappointed) but their side bar was to me the GOAT. They had all you could eat blueberry muffins and damned if 12 year old me didn't cash at least 10 of them every trip. That will always be my favorite bbq chain.

Pappa's doesn't do it for me at close to the same level
