I have an opportunity to grab one below cost, but don't really know anything about them.

From looking online, they seem to get good reviews...provided you know what you're getting. They don't seem like the best option for searing, but seem great for everything else.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm thinking of using this quarantine time to hone my smoking skills.

I have one. Have had it for a few years. Use it multiple times per week. I’m sure there are better out there, but I’ve gotten my money worth and then some.

As long as you are smoking and not trying to use it as a traditional grill, they are great. Just make sure to keep the hopper full.

Someone posted about this grill/smoker the other day and it got my attention:

Traegers don't really require much skill. They're designed to be set it and forget it and fairly foolproof.

A buddy of mine has one and I haven't pushed away a plate of anything that's come off it.

I've had one for a few months. Timberline 1300. Happy with the smoking part of it. The wifire part of it leaves lot to be desired. Works on and off.

Put together mine on Sunday (Eastwood 22 from Home Depot).

Thinking about breaking it in with ribs this weekend.

Convenient and easy but I found it didn't give a good enough smoke favor I was looking for using pellets. Also, it didn't char meats like I had hoped, it acts more like an oven. Now this was years ago and maybe improvements have been made but I went back to old style coal pits.

There's a bigger model on the BBQ HQ. I'll get one when they come back on stock. LINK

Biggest reason I got mine.

Had never owned a smoker before. I like low maintenance so a set it and forget type smoker is my jam.

Use it as a smoker and not a grill.

Traegers are fine. I have a Pro-575 with Wi-Fire and it makes smoking meat easy but a stick burner, ceramic, or Weber Smokey Mountain make better pork or beef. And a Weber Kettle with charcoal baskets will make better chicken by a COUNTRY mile.

But for what they are, which is a lazy person's grill, they're fine. I don't hate it and it wasn't a waste of money. There are probably better options for pellet grills (Rec Tec and Yoder) but I wonder how much of a difference brand really makes vs. form when talking about pellet grills.

I think you'll get similar food off any of them.
