What does TulaneLSU have to say about you taking over his top 10 job?

Why wouldn't you have just taken Hwy 51 up from Airline and hit I-12 from there? The only big body of water it crosses is at Pass Manchac. Going your route, you had to cross a lot more than that.

You sound like you know a lot about the geography of south Louisiana. Would you mind being my navigator next time?

How did kazuko beat megumi. Megumi is my favorite sushi place anywhere. Huge a very good rolls for very cheap.
I really like them both a lot. Kazuko is easier to get to for me and the service is awesome. The server gets my beer as soon as I sit down. They have Asahi and Orion beer which are better than Kirin and Sapporo IMO. The chef/owner of Kazuko knows us and slips extras to us.
On a recent sushi thread someone posted pics from a BR place that looked insane. I may make the drive.

I agree with everything on your list, but I'd have Sal & Judy's over Del Porto just because I've never been there. We hit up La Noria a lot. One of the friendliest restaurants I've ever been to.
Northshore Empress is really good chinese. I'd have to mention Petunia's somewhere too as a place that has a little bit of everything.

Some of my favorites:
Dakota's
Water Street Bistro
Lee's in Slidell
Habano's wine market

Never had a meal I didn't love at Dakota. Sesame Inn needs to be at the top of the list for casual chinese, although I haven't been in years.

Juniper is just divine. A must try.
Also, Gallagher's Grill in Old Covington is awesome and on our list of places to go frequently.
I like Friends for the overall experience, but I couldn't say the food is top notch.

Mexican: La Noria Taqueria on Hywy 59 in Mandeville. They have lengua and menudo.
quote:Will try. Megumi used to be my favorite on both sides of the lake, but something happened. Still very good, but not the best.
Sushi: Kazuko in Mandeville. They knocked off Sake Garden and Megumi as my previous favorites.
quote:Couldn't say enough good about it.
Gallagers in Covington.
quote:I don't have anything bad to say about it, the ambiance is wonderful, but nothing really great or memorable about the food stands out either. I almost feel bad saying that, like it must be me, but
I shamefully have never been to Dakota and I live with 1/2 mile of it.

I don't know if this has been written or not, but I love Bosco's in Mandeville....great seafood.

Absolutely agreed

Agreed on Bosco's. I haven't tried the seafood as I always grab muffs to go. The muffuletta's are top notch. What should I order for seafood?

What about boiled crawfish in mandeville? Where to go
Posted on 4/24/12 at 11:12 am to nevilletiger79
Couple places by the lakefront do it on the weekend. Coffee's in Madisonvlle was good but you order in advance. Their has been change's at Coffee's so you may wanna check. K-Gee's on Florida in Mandeville is probably your best bet but it's in a strip mall. Chimes has em but they lack flavor. Acme is OK.

Some of these list have so many average restaurants on them. I know it's just opinion...but, what the hell are you people thinking? We are talking about the "Best", Top 10 Restaurants on the Northshore.
How does Jerks, Bears, Rags, WOW, N'Tinis, Mi Mamacitas, Friends, Petunia's, etc. get on anyones list. Not that they are bad places. I've eaten at all of them...But, they are not even close to the best the Northshore has to offer.
Here is my list. I do not list any restaurant from Slidell or Hammond...sorry, it's just too damn far for me to drive. There is NO good food in Madisonville.
1. Sal n' Judys...the place has never missed. I've been with just my wife and also with large groups.
2. Juniper...low key and never "maxed out" busy. But probably one of the best experiences you can get.
3. Cafe Lynn...food and service are first class. It's even better if you don't know that the building was a Burger King, but don't let that stop you from getting a great meal.
4. La Provence...Classic setting, great food, awesome service. I love going when there is a chill in the air and the fireplace is going. Probably one of the best wine list on the Northshore.
5. Keith Youngs...Best steak on the Northshore. That is the only reason I go.
6. del Porto...it's the best pure northern italian on the Northshore.
Now for some less expensive options:
7. Lola...great lunch, even better dinner. They have a perfect little restaurant tucked away by the courthouse in covington.
8. La Noria Taqueria...best authentic Mexican around. Everything else is a knock off of someone elses menu. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is right on.
9. Broken Egg Cafe...I know all the hate for the chains, but this is the original and the best. It's busy and noisy on the weekends, you will have to wait for a table, and that little old building is sometimes hot in the middle of the summer. If you want cheep breakfast...go to Waffle House. If you want a southern experience...go to The Broken Egg.
10. Nuvolari's...it's not just italian. They have some of the best grilled fish. The food and service are always perfect. This is one of our "go to" places when we want comfort. It's also not as expensive as some believe.

I really need to try Cafe Lynn apparently. That might be the next place I eat on the northshore, but first I have to shake the demons from my dark past at that Burger King.
