I listen to his show a couple times a week and is there a restaurant this guy doesn't like?

Correction. He doesn't like "out of town" chains that come here. E.g., Houston's. However, he will pimp the hell out of a local chain such as Zea's.

He is s whore of the first order. He also raves about some of the tiredest, mediocre, anachronistic, past their prime restaurants in the city.

This. Then he has to act like such an a-hole when you do bring one up. I appreciate his support for the local restaurants, but, c'mon, every single chain is not a bad thing.
I more prefer his recipes' to his to critique.

Many are.

He likes Ruths Chris and Mortons, both chains. I think he said Mortons was one of his top 3 steakhouses in the city along with Delmonico and Mr Johns.

I've actually heard him say some nice things about Houston's when it came up. (He also said bad things, I think he is more or less neutral towards Houston's? Which is about right, IMO.)

I think he deserves more flak for not being harsher on the old guard restaurants than his chain restaurant stances.

I used to be a fan and loved the show, enjoyed tuning into 1350 on Sunday afternoons even though static in BR.

However, over the years he has turned into a hack for his sponsors. I won't go into details, but his credibility isn't worth shite anymore. The callers were the show and post-Katrina he had some ax to grind. SOB sure hates BR for someone evac-ed to DC.

He has said good things about BR restaurants, said something good about Ruffino's today.

That's a big change, has the Moran Group bought an ad? I figure he got BF'ed in EBR lockup or something for all his hate.

Yep. A caller must disclose in advance if he has a complaint. Cannot make serious complaint about any sponsor or, in fact, any of Tom's favs. If Tom doesn't know the retaurant or doesn't like it, you may fire away.

When a caller begins to complain about something serious, Fitzmorris will literally tell him on the air to hold off identifying the restaurant.

The sponsors pay the bills and they certainly aren't buying ad time to hear him say they suck. Not unlike any other talk show you listen to.

Take it for what it is. A good radio show about eating out, cooking and wine. He can be an arse but it still is informative and interesting to listen too. I listen to John Folse on Saturday mornings and his show is pretty good as well.

I think Richard Condon, Jimmy Ott and the two idiots on WJBO's morning show suck, but from time to time I listen to them all. And they pimp their sponsors as well. It's the livelyhood of the business.

Of course they do, I buy radio time and I'd be ticked if people got a free, unsubstantiated shot at my business on a show I was sponsoring. But TF does some ridiculous stuff, there was a place on Louisiana Ave, the name escapes me, that he was hacking on every week. Then they buy advertising and in a week they become the next Commander's Palace.

What finally turned my stomach was his incessant hacking on BR after the extreme charity the people of BR showed the people of New Orleans post-Katrina, while he was in DC. I'm from NO and BR is not in the same league, however we have our nice places too.

One Sunday some caller said he was driving home to NO from BR and wanted to know if there were any places to stop on the way. TF asked the guy "how did the Exxon plant smell today, I love that Baton Rouge chemical ambiance". That was it, have not tuned in again. Screw him.

Just because he can answer it doesnt makes him right.

It's either his way or no way. He is very arrogant and insulting. I cant stand him

Sure. But he also holds himself out as a food critic. That imposes an obligation upon him . . .as with any critic . . . to be evenhanded and unbiased. While it's true that critics in many areas are occasionally improperly influenced, Tom has become a joke in that regard among most everyone I know. That said, he does have interesting information and I listen from time to time.
