I was given these as a gift "because you like bbqing."

My advice on these gents, pass.

They have a light smell like white oak, but when they are burning the spice comes out.

I even tried doing an overnight soak to get the spice out. And a large amount comes out, enough to kill the grass where you dump the water.

But it isn't enough.

It smells like burning cinnamon sticks. Great smell, but it's terrible for meat.

I'll stick to pecan and red oak.

It's an interesting concept.

Fruity peppery blend aged in white oak barrels.

Problem is the barrels hold on to the wrong portion of the blend.

I'm giving them one last chance tonight with a whole pork loin with a spice blend that plays nice with the cinnamon smell.

If it goes south, it was only 1.29/lb

I would have guessed as much....good to know for sure. Thanks.

Has anybody tried Jack Daniel barrel chunks? I can't imagine that would be better than plain, natural wood, either.

The JD barrel chunks aren't bad, the smoke just smells scented. Like imitation whiskey.

I occasionally spray down my smoking meat with Apple cider or bourbon.

I'm nearly always going with extremely spicy sweet bbq, nothing beats pecan for extremely sweet.

You should be ashamed to misspell that.

Seems like the smoke from that would be like tear gas.
