I agree about MiLa, not that it was terrible, but it wasn't very good. Definitely doesn't belong on a top 10 list.

When was the last time you went to MiLa?

Hotel recently changed hands. What I heard is the kitchen finally has some say about service and who is running front of house. I havent been since late Spring, but I always went in for lunch.

It was dinner, about a year ago.

I know this wasn't directed to me, but the last time I went was over a year and half ago. I walked into a restaurant where the smell was unbearable.

I would gladly give it another shot.
BO- you think they have made some improvements and is worthy of a go?

I love the place and have always enjoyed the food. Service was always up or down. In full disclosure, the chefs live around the corner from me. But I liked MiLa long before that happened.

The truffled grits with sweetbreads and a bacon sherry jus are probably the best version of that dish in town.

I'm baffled by the exclusion of August...

From the comments on the original article:

Thanks for bringing up August.

Every year the Top 10 list appears in Lagniappe's Fall Dining Guide. The Guide comes in the Sunday print paper (a version of which is actually available for purchase tomorrow), and it contains a larger feature called 100 Great Places to Eat in New Orleans. As the introduction to the printed Guide explains, I exclude restaurants from the 100 Great Places feature - as well as the Top Ten - that are undergoing transitions when the Guide is in production. Restaurant August, a perennial Top 10, fell into this category. It brought in a new chef in the late summer.

This just sounds amazing. I'm certainly willing to believe my experience is the exception but it was bad. I'll give them another shot. A very well respected foodie I know raved about the place even back when I had my experience, I think it's time for a second chance.

Smells can be a turn off for sure. I am sure it was something hotel related and their options were to stay open or...stay open. Give em a whirl. Desserts are excellent as well. The $20 lunch is a great deal.
