Who here has been? We grabbed a reservation today for our anniversary in a couple months and I’m looking forward to going. Just curious who else here has been and what your experience was.

Well. Add two to the reservation and I’ll join you. It’s only an hour from where I live. We used to drive by it going out to visit my wife’s parents in Luray. It has a fantastic reputation.

I can see that going over really well with the wife.
“Hey honey, you know that nice dinner we have planned for our anniversary? Well a guy I’ve never met from Tigerdroppings and his wife will be joining us.”

How long are you in Virginia? Antiques in New Market and you can head over to Barboursville to Barboursville Vineyards which is one of if not the best vineyard in Virginia. Then there’s Skyline Drive which you’ll be very close to at The Inn at Little Washington.

I've stayed there 3 times and it's my most favorite place. It's been a good while since I was there and it's expanded. The meals were OUTSTANDING. Every little detail is amazing.
I had my most favorite appetizer there which is the spinach and crabmeat timbale with buerre blanc. Now, we make it frequently. It was in Bon Appetite some years ago, and now, the chef has several cookbooks out. It's a wow app.
When we were there, they also served breakfast. I'm not sure they do that any longer, but they literally caught rainbow trout in some sort of pond they had and sauteed it for breakfast with thin sliced red potatoes on top like fish scales. Melt in your mouth delicious.
We'd read all about it before the first time we stayed there. The chef meets with the staff in the afternoon before every service to go over making the guests happy. He has a "whatever it takes" attitude. They rank your mood when you arrive and the goal is to make you a 10 by the time you leave.
After we ate, they took us into the kitchen for a tour. There was a chalkboard with the names of the guests on it and their arrival rating and departure rating. We were a 9 upon arrival, so we didn't have far to go to be a 10. We were so glad to be there.
I hope to get back one day. It's #1 on list of great trips and meals. Please report back and take some pictures.

Any other favorites in rural Virginia?

Red Fox Inn in Middleburg is good. Nice little town to walk around.
Field and Main Restaurant in Marshall was outstanding. Grandale Vintner's Table at 868 Vineyards is also outstanding.
