The Daiquiri Factory in Lafayette was perhaps the first. It was the brainchild of David Ervin, a forestry school dropout in his mid-20s who opened his drink stand on Johnson Street in late 1981,

Was a regular customer back then......at the ripe age of 15.

I remember when they tried to shut him down by saying he was selling "open containers" which were illegal to have in vehicles, so they went thru the efforts of putting masking tape around the lid of the styrofoam cup.

Lots of discussions about what was actually an "open" container at USL

If I was a daiquiri drinker that's whose drive thru I would frequent. Harold has been slinging daiquiris for a long arse time..

Finally, opening day arrived. Ervin got to the store at 7 a.m. and turned on the machines. And he waited. And waited.

"I basically just sit there and watch cars zoom up and down Johnston Street, which was the main drive in the city," he said. "I got absolutely zero business. I'm sitting in here with all those machines running, about to have a heart attack. I had told my parents that if the business didn't work, I told them that I would shut the daiquiri shop down and turn it into a package liquor store.

"If that proved to be unprofitable I'd liquidate and go work in the Persian Gulf in the oil field until I paid back the loans."

He didn't sell a single drink during the day, but when the sun went down, things changed.

"It finally got dark enough to turn the lights on, and I flipped the lights on and cars came from everywhere. It was like mosquitoes to a light bulb."

Awesome, that really is a better read that my original OP

I forget how good a Daiquiri is.

Its a great drink to grab on the way home on a Friday, especially in the summer.

White Russian FTW!

What about The Geaux Cup in Crowley? I've been known to grab a Bloody Mary for the ride back to BR back in the day.

I know it's not a daiquiri, but still. Hell, you can drive thru and get a crown and coke there if you'd like.
