Where would Deanies Seafood be considered, Lakeview or Bucktown?

Yeah I was thinking Deanie's too, but I was wrong about its location.

uhhh..I would drop II Tonys to so far off the list its behind the Rally's thats never been rebuilt. My wife and I went there twice - both were horrible and made us wonder why people were recomending it.

Seemed like grocery store bag salad, Wishbone salad dressing, sara lee cheesecake, and the entree wasn't anything worth the price.

Tony Angelos is still great - I find the portions a bit smaller than before, but I think its the same prices so that probably explains that. Never had a bad meal or experience there.

Koz's does some things really well - like all po-boy places somehow good po-boys now have to cost 14 bucks. Its no Parkway or Tracy's, but there are few places I'd rank ahead of it for my po-boy needs.

Deanie's is not that good. I can think of 3 places within a couple of minutes of Deanie's that are better---R&O's, Fury's, II Tony's.

They have a good seafood platter, and the only time I go is when family from the midwest come in, because they always want Deanie's and then Commander's for Sunday Brunch.

I lived in Bucktown for most of my life. I can count on one finger (yes finger) how many times I've been to Deanies. II Tony's, I can count on two fingers. R&Os, on the other hand, I can't count on any hands. ETA: and even though Fury's isn't in Bucktown its unpretentious american-italian and the family is great people.

okay, sold..

Next time we will try R&O's the thing is, I have a slight Culinary background and when I'm craving fried seafood, I just go to the fish market and get stuff. I also usually do my "Shrimp five ways"

Fried, coconut fried, etoufee, creole and bbq.

And when I'm not in the mood I go to Smitty's or Kenner Seafood.

If I'm craving seafood I do something similar. For instance, two weeks ago when I went home [for Bama] for the first time since moving to Houston 5 months ago, my mom asked me what I wanted to eat for lunch and I said oysters. She said, do you want to get a poboy from R&Os, or go somewhere? I said, no, I'll just make the 30 second drive to Captain Sids and buy a tub of raw ones and eat them out of the jar. And I did. And it was awesome.

eta: I have to admit I really don't ever crave fried seafood.

yeah its rare, its usually when I have people over, or if there was a great deal on shrimp. I like most of my seafood broiled or grilled.

I'm not an oyster eater, but I did have eight "Erster shots" at fins the other day.
(Oyster, bacon vodka, cocktail sauce, shallots)
