Wondering if anyone has experience ordering a large quantity of grassfed beef directly from the farmer. Does this save you a significant amount of money? What farm have you used around louisiana?

I talked with a guy north of Lake Charles in Derrider that offers this. I can probably dig a name up if needed...

Give me a day or so. I think he does it as a hobby, but he raises cattle from birth or calf to slaughter. He has a nice sized herd...

Call your count ag extension service agent for a referral. This is a highly local thing, as most markets/butchers will not deliver/transport. You've got to pick it up. Country meat markets that do custom slaughter often have bulletin boards full of sales flyers...calves, goats, rabbits, pigs, lambs, etc. iIf you're in SE LA, Verduns meat market in Raceland can help you find a calf share to purchase.

You can try Hollywood Livestock in Baton Rouge. I've never bought from them though.
