What are you looking for in a knife or knives?
Most times you're better off buying what you'll really use.

My wife and I are not chefs but do cook typical family style dinners, so this would be used for chopping vegetables and meats mostly.

I wouldn’t do it. Shun is good but overpriced. I’d get individual knives based on how you cook and not a set.

I would recommend a good japanese style knife from Chef Knives To Go.
I just bought this one last week and love everything about it:

If you learn to sharpen yourself, it is even better.

To answer your question, it is a good deal. You are basically getting a knife, the scissors, and the block free.
That being said, unless you just have money to burn, and if you just have to have a set, I would get a larger wusthof set for the same money.
Otherwise, it would be more fun to piece your collection together a piece at a time with the knives that you want. Just my 2 cents.

I have an 8” Shun chef’s knife and love it. I probably wouldn’t buy the whole set though. They do a lot of big sales regularly.
